Wasn't Hitler described as an average soldier during WW1? Not really officer material.

I like Rommel and Zhukov.

Hitler was not a general. In fact his stupid mistakes and wrong tactical decisions when he interfered with his generals who knew what they were doing probably cost Germany the war. Whenever he decided to try to give military orders it was always a disaster.

Im a little sad to see King Harald Godwinson has not been mentioned.

Quick Marching from the battle with the Vikings (which he won) all the way across england to face the Normans. Admittedly he lost but to be a great general you dont have to win. You just have to be great.

And you cant help being shot by an arrow.

I also would like to mention the Shaolin. They werent generals and i cant name any individuals but to convert a form of Yoga into a defensive and deadly fighting style to fend off would be conquering tribes is an impressive feat in itself. To then go on to help win the Shogun wars in Japan is amazing.
Its not their fault the winning clan (i forget who it was currently) had them massacred afterwards.

Its hard to say witch ones i think are best.

but teh ones i "LIKE" the best are

1. patton (beacause hes patton)

2. Nimitz (for the midway victory)

3. I forgot to put him on the list but Saladin (because he kicked ass)

4. Doolittle (for his doolittle raid over tokyo)

5. probaly lee.

Hitler was a ok "military leader" but his decions did cost them the war.

I think he should of let rommel take over the whole military side of the war. Europe might be different today.

Godwinson is heavily underrated - if the shieldwall hadn't broken to chase Normans (wether through indiscipline or a cunning ruse will always be a debate), then he'd probably have been the second English King to be known as the Great - after all, marching the length of the country, defeating an army, then marching the length of your country again, having the bulk of your forces go home (the fyrd commitment time of 30 days was up), fight again whilst exhausted, and still almost clinch it - its no small achievement, and was oh so nearly a great one.
