This is my very first time hosting a tournament and it's going to be based on my favourite sport tournament: The FIFA World Cup
32 players can participate Settings will be 1v1, automatic, sequential, no cards, adjacent, standard, fog of war
FREEMIUMS are welcome but THEY MUST HAVE AT LEAST 3 spots open. 48 hours (starting from the time of the invite sent out) will be given to each player to join a game and if he/she fails to join, then the game will be considered a forfeit.
The games will all be played on the "2010 World Cup" map for as long as the map is available for play. However in the case that the games go past the map availability period (approx JUL 11 2010) the remaining games will be played on the CC map "Poker Club" with all the exact same settings listed above.
Each player will have to choose a country from the list below - first come first serve.
YOU MUST POST IN THE THREAD IN ORDER TO JOIN. PM MESSAGES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS ENTRY. ALSO LET ME SUGGEST THAT YOU CHECK THE COUNTRY LIST TO SEE IF IT IS AVAILABLE OR NOT BEFORE POSTING YOUR COUNTRY PICK. - If you post without checking the list and don't provide me with alternative picks then you might not get into the tournament. I will not warn you about this. It will be your responsibility to make sure that your pick is available before posting. Thank you.
ROUND 1 In round one all 32 players will play 3 games each with the others in their group and each win will earn a player 1 point.
If there are ties in scoring (and also in order to designate group winners and group runner ups) then tie breakers will be decided based on the following rule: the player who won his/her winning games (in his group) in the least number of rounds will be the winner of a tie.
Example: Let's say Players 1 and 2 both have 2 points each (2 wins and 1 loss) Player one won his two games in the following way: game 1 LOSS (does not count towards total rounds), game 2 won in round 8, game 3 won in round 3 - (total rounds taken to win game= 8+3=11)
Player two won his games in the following way: game 1 won in round 5, game 2 won in round 5, game 3 LOSS (does not count towards total rounds) - (total rounds taken to win game= 5+5= 10)
In the above example player two will be the winner of the group as he/she has the lower number of total rounds taken to win game, and player one will be the group runner-up
Addendum - June 29th: In case that both the total number of wins and rounds taken to win games are tied then for the purposes of a tie breaker and to assess group standings then the total number of troops in the won games for each player will be added and the player with more total troops in his/her won games will win the tie breaker.
The match ups for round 1 will be identical to the official matchups of the World Cup - there will be a total 48 games before group winners and runner-ups are decided:
ROUND 2 - Knockout stage The 16 players who advance to round 2 will play their games according to the way it's displayed on the map itself - Winner Group A vs Runner-up Group B, etc.:
NOTE: Round 2 is a knockout round so once a player loses a game he/she is out of the tourney.
