As a formerly licensed therapist let me put it this way: People like to think of themselves as interesting and they like it when people take an interest in them. That is human nature. When people aren't terribly interested in Croatia, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Australia, etc., residents of said places get their feathers ruffled. That is also human nature.

When you were in secondary school didn't you feel good about yourself if the class presidium or the captain of the badminton team knew you (I'm assuming badminton is the "big" sport at American secondary schools)? Alternatively, didn't you feel a little "bummed out" if he didn't even know your first name?

The world stage is like an American secondary school, I think. The United States is the captain of the badminton team and the Treasurer of the chess club (Australia) really wants to be able to run home and tell mum and dad he knows the United States and got invited over to his party on Saturday. If he doesn't get that invite to the party he may rationalize it by saying he's too good for that big, dumb jock anyway and then curl up alone with a bag of marshmallows, a jar of acne cream and Battlestar Galactica on DVD for his Saturday night.

Also in regards to that video, there are stupid people. I bet you anything that If I went to Australia and spent all day walking around trolling people I could find some pretty stupid people, and make them look even dumber. Not to mention people are always easily swayed by the power of suggestion. If you have a camera in someones face and a map with incorrectly labeled countries, you probably don't need to try too hard to fluster someone into pointing at the wrong country.

I recall about a year ago there was an uproar as New Zealand's Kiwibank hosted an online flash game on their website where you could shoot Australians dead. It seems like little countries always act uppity to bigger countries. Here, in the Flanders, there is animosity against Wallonia. In Spain there is animosity towards France. Peru and Ecuador don't like each others. Our troops are supported. Even though there is noise against the war and us being in Iraq in the media the majority of citizens understand the purpose and support it. We are not trying to overthrow our gov because of it. We are not rioting because of it. We are not fleeing by the thousands to Canada because of it.

We citizens do not trust our gov, or any other gov as far as that goes, we value our freedom and our right to speak. Most of us also believe we have the RIGHT and NEED to defend our families and country.

I am not narcissistic about the US, I just want the world to know how truly great it is.
