small delay on new recruits joining games

Post by MichelSableheart »

Concise description:
Give new recruits a small delay (about an hour) after signing up for the site before they are able to join a game.

Specifics:
A significant percentage of new recruits join a game, then never show up again. The games they joined have to wait 3x 24 hours before they have actually deadbeated. This is extremely annoying for the players who play against them, mostly new recruits themselves.

My suggestion is to set a small delay of about an hour after signing up for the site before a new recruit can actually join a game. This way, only players who are serious about playing a game can sign up. If they can't wait for an hour before signing up for a game, they likely won't be able to wait for 24 hours before their next turn rolls around either.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Less games ruined by players deadbeating
  • More interesting games for newer players, keeping a higher number of those that do actually play interested.

I think making new players wait an hour before ever being able to try the site, effectively, shunning near all new players will be far more of a problem, than the few deadbeats. If you dont want to wait, buy the premium and have fun, but dont ask the site to remove its only opportunity to gain new players.

$25 solves this problem for you. Losing near all new players will be slightly harder for CC to fix I believe.

But we already effectively make them wait hours before they are able to try the site. If they join a game (with more then one opponent), it will probably be several hours before that game is filled, and then several more hours before their turn comes around.

And no, buying premium would not solve this problem for me. I am not interested in playing speedgames, and am perfectly happy to wait 20 hours for my opponents to take their turns. What I don't like, however, is see a questionmark miss the first turn in their game, check their joindate and last online time, and know that the 3 player free for all I joined just became a 1 vs 1.

I agree with AA, this will only hurt CC's chances of gaining new players. I think that a video should be made for them to watch, that explains the website more.

I see, so someone finds this new (to them) site with games they would like to try, only they have to wait a whole hour before they can even think about playing a game?

What happened to the "just 5 minutes to play?" If that were the rule when I first started, I can gaurantee I never would have gotten premium (2 years, I had it).

Yes, a few people pop in and leave ... you wait three days, its a pain, but that's life. Get premium and the waiting won't matter that much.
