Did you read the rest of the thread?

It's not about the single click - for example: I am currently playing 23 quads games. In these 23 games, I have 16 unique teammates. That means that it's 16 clicks to find out who is online of all my teammates. 16 times that I have to load a new page, and then reload the previous one. With BOB on this takes even longer.

The people upset about being hidden or not - this would not affect you at all. You will still remain hidden, but just in one more place on the website. For those of us that aren't hidden, we can see who is online and who is not at a glance, not by checking each player's page.

why dont you use msn ? you can have a group discussion easily

personally, I dont see a need for this feature - if you want to see who is on line mark them all as friends and then you can see at a glance who is online

Again with the overloading of your friends list. If you play 500 unique opponents and add them all as friends it would be overwhelming as hell! And msn? Really? Not everyone is going to be willing to hand out there personal msn name to everyone and then there would be too many people on your friends list on a SEPERATE program that was meant for friends and family......I see that idea failing long before this one would!

Most other things that people wanted was made with things like that. OR you could develop it yourself. It may be time consuming but at least you can. It's like before bob people counted cards, it was time consuming but you could.

If there is enough of a market then someone will either do it themselves or develop a script.

Actually - a script wouldn't work so well - the data is there in the website and could easily be brought through into the Game page...

Scripts work best when they're only querying the current page - they slow down a lot when querying other pages as they have to load that whole page into memory and parse the data.

AFAIK - this should be a simple case of "where do I put it" rather than having to code stuff up.

Let me see if I get this right.
Im player red in a quads.
I click greens name and he isnt online. So i click the back button.
I click blues name and he isnt online. So i click the back button.

Do you see where this is going? So far its taken about 3 seconds!
I click yellows name and lo and behold he is online. Now I am happy and can post on his wall to come into [Game]xxxxxxxx[/Game] and we can talk tactics.

What you are asking for is someone to change something we all love so a few people can save about 5 seconds when they are after some help in a game.
Heres an idea. PM your teammates and ask them to leave some tips in game chat. Then check a few hours later.

this is a great idea...and u talk about people who dont wanna play rt and people harassing them...thats why they invented the "hide online status" option. if u want to hide ur online status, then just do so. this is a great idea and i think it should be added at the end of the statistics part of the screen. maybe put a blue or green circle if the guy is online then maybe a red or orange square if he isnt or has it hid. its just that simple

Display players name in bold if they are online

Postby bobbyb on Fri Feb 12, 2010 9:30 am

Displaying the name of the players in bold when they are online would help a lot in finding out who's ready to play and who's not before and during a game.

I'm looking forward to seeing this implemented. It will make it easier for freemiums to find out if their opponents can play in RT.

Can we not have some sort of icon next to their name in the MY GAMES screen that shows who's online? It would make it a little easier if you were looking to see if there is potential for a turn very soon, especially if you're in a ton of games.

if you're not in a ton of games, you should have plenty of free time to click their profile. Sometimes people are taking other turns, or aren't sure what they want to do yet on a certain turn, and don't want to be bothered about it in their inbox, or their wall. 24 hours..

ONLINE SYMBOL IN "My Games" index?

Postby LikeYestrdaysJam on Fri Apr 30, 2010 3:19 am

Hey!
Im not sure if this is the place to pu this but anywho.
I would like to have a small online symbol put next to the players names in the My Games index and inside the games themselves.
Would this be possible?
and if so is this a good idea?, i think it would be good to see if your having a real time game and they dont start for a minute or two to be able to see if they are still online without having to go to their wall and then back to the game possibly costing you critical time in a freestyle game.

If I were a Volunteer Mod, I'd totally move this to the Suggs/Buggs forum. =P

And more on topic, I don't really like it. I would just join Speed games if you want real-time, because they only have 5 minutes to do their turn. And going to their wall takes only a few seconds (unless you're on a slow comp, in which you'd lose critical time anyway).

It's a nice idea, but would be fairly deceptive/pointless about players who opt to hide their online status. And as Army of GOD pointed out, it's easier to join/make a speed game.

I'll move this on over to Suggestions and hope it gets some attention in there.

Because you don't know how long they will stay online and how long the game will last.

Allow friends/clanmates to see you while hidden

Postby cachejob on Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:05 am

Concise description:

  • Allow friends/clanmates to see you when hidden

Specifics/Details:

  • Have 2 more sets of selection circles (yes or no) in the User Control Panel->Board Preferences->Edit Global Settings, under Hide my online status.

One would allow people in your friends list to see you online while you remain hidden to the rest of CC.

One would allow clanmates to see you online while you remain hidden to the rest of CC.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

  • At the moment if you want to remain hidden to your enemies, friends and clanmates aren't able to see that you're online. This can be a disadvantage as far as being able to get together to discuss strategy or arrange pickup games. The suggestion will allow people to choose to whom they are visible, enabling easy communication with friendlies while remaining under the enemy's radar.

would you still have the option to hide from someone even if they are in your friends list? and what about an easy hide from all?

ok, your opponents then. those whose side you are not on. in fog of war games i would rather not have my opponents watching me play, seeing battles in progress. i would rather they have to puzzle over the game log later to try to decipher my moves. if they can see my name in the forum list then they are more likely to monitor the game we are in, anticipating that i could be making a move soon.

certainly, just leave the 2 new circles (Allow friends to see you while hidden, and Allow clanmates to see you while hidden) selected as No, and it will behave as it does now when you are hidden. i think it would be too much trouble to have it selectively be visible to some friends/clanmates rather than all. if you don't want to be seen select No for both choices.

Would also help those freestyle players that don't want the opponent to know when they are taking their turn, or so that the opponent doesn't know when we are watching them take their turn........

I like this idea, and would suggest a third control to allow your currently active teammates to see when you are online. You might be in a team game with people whom you have not yet added to your friends list, but you might find it useful to let them see when you are online.

What would happen if there was a person you were playing on a team with at the same time as playing against them in another game?
progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be...If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.

Well, if the button says Allow teammates to see you while hidden, and you have it selected, then you would be seen. I don't think we should get into too much complication. You will have to make your own decisions on things like this.

Hmmm :-k
I play games with friends all the time, and random other people I suppose...
What about - A checkbox system?

One box to check 'Hide from all'

One box to check friends and foes, each (Hide from all friends and/or hide from all foes)

One box for each friend foe, to mark them individually

One box for 'everyone else' if you aren't doing everyone

About in that order, that way you can choose to
A. Be hidden from everyone
B. Be hidden only from certain friends / foes
C. Allow the rest of the CC population to see/not see you.

I don't think it's too confusing, and it could work I suppose :-k

Also, the chipv idea of always having teammates see you is good in principle, but what if you are a team with that person in one game, and their opponent in another? Would they still see you, even they they're still technically your opponent in one game? Or would they not see you, even though they are your teammate? :-k

it sounds like it's getting more and more complicated. it depends how big a job the coders want to turn it into. i thought the original idea would be less work for them and simpler for the general population (think lowest common denominator), but i'm ok with whatever the majority want and coders are willing to do. i suggest the default behavior should remain as it is now, being visible to all unless you go in and start changing settings.

maybe once the idea passes in principle we could have a poll to see which specific options people want?
