-players cannot watch foggy games (for obvious reasons)
-at the bottom of the game page, the name of the players who are "browsing" or "watching" the game are listed (just as they are listed on forum thread pages to designate who is browsing the particular forum topic.)
-foes are prevented from watching your games AND foes are prevented from commenting in your game chat

Make all that happen and I'd support a watch list.

Are you aware that you can, right now, watch a foggy game? If you are not a player, you cannot see any numbers on the map, and the log is full of question marks, but you can see how many troops were awarded for holding some number of territories, or some unidentified zone.

Yes, I'm aware that you can view the log in a foggy game. I think the original poster was/is intending that a "watch list" be created, such that players can have a list of gmaes they are "watching" and can access them quickly without having to write down game numbers and type them into game finder...etc...a long slow process to find each of the games you are trying to watch.

ender516 wrote:I agree that it might be nice to see who is looking in on a game, but that should include players as well as kibbitzers.

Knowing who would be important for a lot of reasons. Thanks for adding.

ender516 wrote:I also agree with your thoughts on foes. Currently foes are filtered out of your game chat, but I don't know if they are prevented from putting in something that other players in your game can see.

They are "filtered out of the chat" meaning I cannot read what my foes are posting. But they can still post in my games. I'm suggesting that foes are prevented from posting in the game chat on the "foe-er's" games.

ender516 wrote:Until this sort of thing is added to the site, there are add-ins to do this sort of thing: Saved Searches For Internet Explorer Script and New Greasemonky Script - Saved Searchs. With a saved search, you should be able to go to the Game Finder page, click to run a search which finds the games of interest, then Enter Game and bob's your uncle.

Yet another recommendation for a script that is useless for me and those who cannot use scripts. Preferably, my additions to this suggestion meant for the site...not for scripts...are incorporated into the site. I cannot use scripts and it is increasingly annoying that more and more scripted options are becoming available.

Nonethelesss...thank you for your support.

I have suggested something that could be added to the site, that might be the sort of thing you're looking for.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=105510&start=0

Namor wrote:Concise description:
  • A set of 10 buttons added to the top of the page, along side the 'Home,Instructions,Scoreboard, etc' , that provide a quick link to chosen forum threads.

Specifics:
  • When clicking the 'Bookmark' button at the bottom of a thread, as well as the link being placed in the bookmark folder, the user could have the option to assign the link to a number from 0 to 10 (0 being unassigned)

The buttons would simply be numbered 1-10... and hovering the mouse over each would display the thread name.

One click could then take the user directly to the front page of the watched thread.

With a 'Manage Quick Links' page, the user could direct the link to the 'First unread post' if so desired, also on this page he/she could copy and paste a link straight into one of the buttons.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • It would cut down on the number of pages that sometimes need to be navigated through, in order to arrive at a desired thread
  • I know that at present this can be achieved with <Control Panel> <Manage Bookmarks> <Watched link>, but for those that have to rely on limited Broadband usage, it would be a godsend. Going via Control Panel, Manage Bookmarks, may only use around 6-10 Kb, but if you've done that a few hundred times in a month, then it all adds up.
  • The user could have a direct link to their Clan forum or a particular thread from it. Instead of clicking 'Forum' at the top of page and scrolling down to the 'Clans' section.
  • It could also be possible to assign a quick link to a particular game number that the user might be constantly checking. Speed games could have a quick link, instead of keeping a separate tab open.

You could paste a link to the games you're watching straight into a 'Quicklink' button, thus enabling you to check a particular game with one click.

Of course, you could only watch 10 games at any given time, but there is room for more than ten buttons.

Maybe, if lack is unable to implement this, it could be incorporated into BoB?

if you use firefox, you can get way more than ten buttons... if you go to properties of the link, and change the name to something shorter, and more meaningful usually, you can fit 2 or 3 times that, depending upon the size of your screen

I have 20 links, some personal, some CC and still have room, and havent even had to compress very much...could probably fit 40 now that I look closely at it...
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk

A way to "bookmark" games of interest

Postby L M S on Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:32 am

I'm thinking it would be nice to add some kind of radio button or checkbox or something in the games, maybe in the stats table area, that will allow that game to be "bookmarked". There would need to be an added tab for them at the top of the My Games page too in order to store/sort (for lack of better term(s)) the bookmarked games and for easy access to them. Something akin to a favorites list in a browser I'm thinkin...:

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • There are several games that I like to check in on regularly. These include clan challenge games, tourney games, games where I'm actively sitting in, games where friends ask me to keep an eye on because they might miss a turn, etc..., and some games I just like to watch the action in. It is a bit tedious to search by game number each time or scroll through an entire thread to find what you are looking for. I would like to be able to easily find a few selected "important" games a little easier if possible is all.

Perhaps a way to be notified via pm when it's a specific players turn in a specific game.

Turn notification.
This post was made by jefjef who should be on your ignore list.

Not exactly. For example, what if I just want to check in on a friend's clan challenge game......what if I want to check in on only 6 out of the 60? What if you PM'ed me and said hey bud I'm gonna be at mom's all day tomorrow...if you see me getting low in a game can you sit for me real quick?

I'd have to scroll through all 60 clan games to find the ones I wanted. I would have to search all your games to see if you were about to miss a turn in any....

If there is a way to do what I am thinking about already please "show me the money." I don't believe turn notifier is the right answer. (but that would be cool too)

Exactly, was going to mention I have been using this for months now. I usually have it updated where I can "watch" every clan game that my clan is in.

I only wish it would list the games in order of time left on the turn and it would show whose turn it was without having to go into the game. I think I will go suggest this in the thread for watched games now.

"watching" tab

Postby cpurcell on Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:02 pm

Concise description:
  • There would be an additional tab next to the "active", "awaiting players", "eliminated", and "recently finished" tabs that would display any games that you have selected to watch.

Specifics/Details:
  • Players would be able to select games that they wanted to appear in their "watching" tab. Once the games were completed, they could be moved to "recently finished", or deleted from all tabs (not sure which is the best way to get rid of them once they're done)
  • To select a game, I was thinking that there could be a text box at the top of the "watching" page, and players would put in the game numbers that they want to watch, the game would be listed there until it was completed, or removed by the user.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This would enable anyone to watch games that they are not in.
  • This would be especially helpful with clans because it would enable clan members and most importantly leaders to keep an eye on games that their clan in involved in during wars.

Someone suggested something similar for games you were accountsitting on, but i like this one more since it would allow you to keep tabs on other games that interest you aswell. Good idea mate.

'Watched Games' Tab

Postby Hornet95 on Sun Aug 01, 2010 6:13 pm

Concise description:
  • Add a 'Watched' list of games beside the 'Active', 'Waiting on Players', etc. list.
Add 'Watch Game' as a second option to the 'Join Game' option.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Helps me to set aside a list of games I might want to join now or later. When I was premium, I limited myself to 20 games at a time. Now as freemium, of course, I only have 4 game slots.

Of course, this might have other benefits as well. We would probably want to place a limit on how many we could put in the 'Watched' list.

Watch List in "My Games" Section (Now With Poll)

Postby GreecePwns on Wed May 04, 2011 4:30 pm

Concise description:
  • A tab in the My Games section for players to add games they would like to watch that they are not in.

Specifics/Details:
  • A player would be able to add to their Watch List by clicking a special in-game button for games they are not in to keep tabs on those games they find interesting.
  • After the game is finished, it is removed from the list. Another tab could also be made, for Recently Finished games that were in this list, or they could be added to the regular Recently Finished list, or they could just disappear from the My Games section altogether.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Tournament Organizers can keep an eye on their games easier
  • Players will be able to "watch and learn" or even scout opposition easier

i think WTG is the most useful of all the add-ons.

i have every current game for every tournament i am running watched but the 'watch this game' link that appears beside every game is really annoying. to avoid it i keep Bob turned off.

if it was to be implemented i would like to be able to turn it on or off as easily as i can now. not via the Game Settings tab.
