Re: Nordic Countries <v.55> p1,42 [Gp,G] which title? - see p.42
Well it's practically the same, just the text is in all caps in one and normal in another.
Perhaps I should set up a poll?

I like it much better without the reflection. Either font will work, it's just the reflection that throws me off.

Ok thanks denominator.
So, the XML check by Forza was OK, and here are the test results for coordinate checking.

Anyone see any flaw in the coordinates?

Ok, one more quick post. As per the.killing's suggestion I added a bigger glow around the land... And following mibi's feedback of the land being too "soft" I sharpened the land texture. Result:
How do you like the changes?

I really don't like the two toned logo... it clashes pretty bad. Love the flag shields though.

You know, you may be right. I'll try a version with the single colour title + shields, but I'll do that tomorrow, I need some sleep...Industrial Helix wrote:I really don't like the two toned logo... it clashes pretty bad. Love the flag shields though.
Nice that you like the shields, though. You kinda gave me the idea... so thanks for that.

Re: Nordic Countries <v.56> p1,43 [Gp,G] added glow, fixd coords
The Norwegian and the Icelandic flag doesn't look right at all. The blue line (for Norway) and red (for Iceland), is supposed to be thicker than the white, and in different order. Blue and red in the middle, not white

Ok, since nobody has any more comments, I'm assuming everyone is satisfied with this latest version...
Here's test results with 808:s, so you can see the map works with 3-digit numbers.
large with 808 small with 808

XML: http://h1.ripway.com/ndread/nordic_xml_6.xml (approved by Forza)
Can I has XML stamp?

Hi,
Thanks for inviting me to comment. here it is: I like it. A lot!
Only comment I have (on Norway), is: Lofoten is not a district in Norway at the same leve as Nordland, Troms, Finnmark, etc. it is, however, a part so distinct and known to tourists that it actually fits well in on this map. Sweden, Denmark looks fine (to a Norwegian), Finland is too unfamiliar to me.
I like it a lot!! Please let me know if you have any specific questions or want me to look into something specific.
Well done!
Kindest regards,
Erkern- The Viking!

Re: Nordic Countries <v.56b> p1,43 [Gp,G] - XML ready. Stamp?
Thanks for the comments Erkern. I'm aware that Lofoten is not a district in the same sense as the other territories, but Nordland had to be divided for gameplay reasons, so after consulting another Norwegian I decided to name the territory Lofoten. Glad you approve of the solution though.
At this point, I don't have much questions, if you see any graphical things that bother you, or any army number coordinates that seem off, let me know.
As for the Geography... I had a Norwegian comment on Norway, a Swede advise on Sweden, I'm from Finland myself, and Denmark & Iceland were pretty easy... so it should be pretty solid!

Re: Nordic Countries <v.56b> p1,43 [Gp,G] - XML ready. Stamp?
Well, it appears to be very 'unnordic' in the sense Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland are considered equal in political strength and influence.
Apart from sweden the population are equal only sweden has twice the population of the others.
For a dane its rather insulting to downplay denmarks position in the north to be a fringe state. Denmark occupied Norway, large parts of sweden, iceland, faroe islands, in 1800. Today all nordics are even, and i think you should try and reflect this or simply remove denmark as its relevance appears completely tilted. Its obvios to any nordic person that this map has been designed by someone with very limited knowledge of the region.
best of luck with it,
E

Well Ellemann, you have your right to your opinion, but if you forgive me for saying so, it is quite an uninformed one.
First of all, I live in the Nordic countries, so I should say I do know something about them.
Second of all, Denmark has a very strong position in the map. For that matter, I've strived for maximum geographical accuracy that is possible within the bounds of a CC map, and me (a Finn) and the Norwegian and Swedish guys who helped me with this map agree with me.
Thirdly... a mapmaker cannot just fudge bonus values and other gameplay elements based on which area is strongest in real world, if it will disturb the gameplay balance. A map is first and foremost for playing, not material for school classes. And for that matter, as I said, I live in one of the Nordic countries, and have visited all but one of them. So I think I can with some authority say that the map reflects the Nordic countries of today as accurately as is possible within a CC map.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment on my thread. While I disagree with just about everything in your post, I do appreciate the attention.

Hi, mates
Thx for inviting me to comment on your Nordic Map. I like the idea alot, and you seem to have balanced the boni and difficult to hold the areas very well. I look forward very much to play that map.
As a dane I did, however, stumpled that you call regions Nordjylland, Midtjylland and then SYDDANMARK, not Sønderjylland - as we call it. We do, however, have a region called SydDanmark, but that covers all Sønderjylland og Fyn into same region (politically).
First I thought it was becaurse you wanted to avoid the lette Ø, but as you use KØBENHAVN, I wouls suggest you call it Sønderjylland.
But only take this as a minor comment. I sure are impressed of your work and wish you all the best in your work.
... and finally, I look forward very much to play your game !!
Playfull nregards
