Very significant time in history...
First use of atomic weaponry in combat,
First time America had been attacked by a foriegn nation in since the War of 1812, but at the same time the war brought our economy out of the Great Depression.
The world was introduced to facism, put simply, a dictatorship with a racist agenda. Was allowed to gain influence thanks to democratic European policy of appeasing Hitler, turning a blind eye as he took over Switzerland, Poland, and Norway.

Just to clear up a few things here, Hitler never took over Switzerland. Also, he didn't take Norway until after the War started, and his invasion of Poland was what finally got the Europeans to fight him. European appeasement allowed Hitler to take Austria and Czechslovaki(not sure about that spelling), and build up his millitaryLord Canti wrote: European policy of appeasing Hitler, turning a blind eye as he took over Switzerland, Poland, and Norway.

The inflation rate in Zimbabwe just hit 4 million percent. Some people say it is only 165,000, but they are just being stupid. -Scott Adams, artist and writer of Dilbert
While Hitler never really invaded and took Switzerland, the Swiss were appeasing him with military supplies and housing Nazi money, so they might as well have been a non-aggressive ally during the war.DIRESTRAITS wrote:Just to clear up a few things here, Hitler never took over Switzerland. -Hitler took Demark April 9, 1940 and thats the same time they landed in Oslo, Norway, Hitler started both by a paratroop landing both in Oslo and near Stavanger, as well as landings from the sea at Kristiansand, Bergen, Trondhiem, Navik (up north) and also in Oslo. Norway fell a few days later.
-Anyways I think most of the fighting in the north took place at Finland at the start of the war, they were taking on the Russians and the Germans at the same time, and then because they were low one matrials they took sides with Germany.

I am not going into full details about WW2 just a brief fly over of it, if I were to tell the whole history of WW2 the page would be a lot longer.CRAYOLA wrote:you forgot one right before d-day. Airborne landing at 0100 hourswar_bloodline wrote:What do you want to talk about, dealing with WW2?

on a side note, I just saw a very interesting movie about Hitler. It's not a documentary, its kind of surreal. The main character is Hitler(an actor, not the real deal) and hes watching real filmstrips/movie reels of footage from WWII in some bunker(i personally think it's hell, or his mind, random characters come in and out when no exit is shown and one of them is Sigmund Freud who died in 39 but appears to be about 55-60 years old in the film so it can't be a real place and time on earth) and hes commenting, kind of thinking out loud, his beliefs, what he was doing, his strategies, anything that comes to his mind. It is sort of a cross-section of Hitlers mind, how the director thinks it to be at least. It makes you look at Hitler as a human, his insecurites, his strengths, his weaknesses, and its totally open so it lets you come to conclusions about why he did the things he did. There is no action whatsoever in the movie and its almost completely dialogue, but the actor plays a great Hitler and if you are fascinated with Hitler as I am (fascinated doesn't mean I like or support him and his beliefs btw, I am just amazed at how one man can change the world and I like WWII stuff) then you will probably like the movie as did I. I'm going to watch it a couple more times though because there are so many great quotes and scenes I want to see if I missed anything. The name of the movie is The Empty Mirror and I recommend it to those who appreciate good dialogue, can sit through a movie with no action, and who like Hitler/WWII topics.
Here is the IMDB page for the movie, there are some good reviews on there too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116192/

Thats odd.
Anyways about Hitler he was a very strong nationalist when he was in control of the National Socialist German Workers (Nazi's) in about 1921 I want to say he was a big sign of "good things" to come for Germany. With in the first 2 years from the start of the Nazi party they had some 55,000 members, in the next few more years the munbers jumped from that to 800,000 and they still grew on.

By the way have any of you here read Mein Kampf (My Struggle) by Adolf Hitler, that is a window into the mind of a mad man.
The good things that he wanted for Germany were really just a full load of bull, right after the Nazi party took over Germany the price of bread jumped to what it would be for you to buy a very high class car.
