TOP 500 Doubles League [WINNER: ARTUR1 & SNUSLEPPA]

Welcome to TOP 500 Doubles League, the second one of TOP series

Requirements:
The registration for the TOP 500 Doubles League will be open until Sunday, March 4th, 11:00 a.m. GMT. To be eligible for the league, both players of the teams have to be on the first two pages of the scoreboard, i.e. TOP 500 player, at the registration closing time. You must have a premium account to enter the Doubles League, because we will play some matches in parallel.

Structure:
Depending on the number of teams we will have 2 or 4 groups of 6 teams. Round 1 groups will be defined according to the sum of the scoreboard points of both players. Group 1: 1,4,5,8,9,12 and Group 2: 2,3,6,7,10,11.

Every team will play 10 matches (3 teams doubles games) in each group. All matches are sequential. The maps are predefined:
1. Classic, flat rate, adjacent
2. Europe, escalating, chained
3. Brazil, no card, unlimited
4. Ancient Greece, flat rate, adjacent
5. Middle Earth, escalating, unlimited
6. North America, no card, chained
7. World 2.1, escalating, unlimited
8. Arctic, no card, adjacent
9. Senate, flat rate, chained (will be changed if not quenched)
10. King of the Mountains, flat rate, adjacent (will be changed if not quenched)

Points for each match:
1st: 6 points
2nd: 2 points
3rd: 0 points

The first three teams of each group will be qualified for the next round. If we start with 2 groups, next round will be the final round consisting of 6 teams. They will play another 10 matches, same principles like in the first round. The team with the most points will be the Champion of TOP 500 Doubles League.
If we start with 24 teams, i.e. 4 groups, round 2 will be 2 groups each 6 teams. Each group will consist of 2 first place, 2 second place and 2 third place teams. Round 2 groups will be defined according to the sum of points gained in the first round. The rest is the same as above.

Teams will be substituted, if they don't show up.

**UPDATES**

March 12th, 2007

Mike Dahorty sent me a pm stating that he don't want to play rest of the League, because he didn't know that the League was 6 player Doubles.

He wrote:
"really sorry about the mix up,but, 6 player sucks
one team makes a choice and ruins a game, not my kind of game"

Although his reasoning was not understandable to me (because the structure of the League was explained in my first post on the forum),
without further comment I will replace Mike Dahorty & vic with our first substitute team, reverend_kyle & adran. A pm will be sent them to enter match 2. They will take over the points of Mike Dahorty & vic from the first match.

One last word about the League:
During the next matches, every team may face favorable or unfavorable decisions of other teams, sometimes also consciously to prevent you taking further League points. It's a LEAGUE, not a private doubles match for easy scoreboard points. Only the best will survive :!:

Invincible & roadwarrior posted that they won't play Finals. The team that will take the 4th place in Group B will replace them. This will be either artur1 & snusleppa or reverend_kyle & Adran depending on the result of last game.

**QUESTIONS & ANSWERS**

Question 1:
In your first post you don't describe what will happen in the case of the 3 groups (that is what we have). What the next round will be? Top 2 from each of the existing 3 groups to form one final group. Or is it going to be top 4 from each of the existing 3 groups to form 2 final groups?

Answer 1:
We have four groups, A,B,C and D, not three.
After 10 matches (weeks) the first three of each group goes to the second round. That makes 12 player who will form 2 groups of 6 in the second round. After 10 matches, again the first three of those two groups will go to the final round. That makes 6 players who will form the final group. They will play another 10 matches and the leader will be winner of the League.

Question 2:
Are results from qualifying rounds transfered (or partially transfered) into the next round? In some form of handicap? Otherwise u should not be concerned with winning as such in every game, just to get into top 3 team in a group...

Answer 2:
Points are not transferred into second round. However you should be concerned to win your matches not to be in a very powerful group in the second round.
In the second round each group will consist of 2 first place, 2 second place and 2 third place teams of the first round. First place teams will be ranked 1,2,3,4 according to the sum of points gained in the first round (not scoreboard points!!). Same also for and second (5,6,7,8 ) and third (9,10,11,12) teams. Then Round 2 groups will be defined. Group A consists of teams 1,4,5,8,9,12. Group B consists of teams 2,3,6,7,10,11.

Question 3:
Overtime, we find that players are hard pressed due to their work schedules etc. making them take turns very late or even miss turns which ordinarily they don't. Of course their partners try to cover but even partners can be busy too. To alleviate this problem, why don't you allow teams to have the option to appoint a reserve player who can join in a game or two when one of the partner are busy?

Answer 3:
You can use a reserve player, if you are not able to join a match due to any reason. Prerequisite is that the reserve player is a member of TOP 500 at the time you nominate him. I will allow only one reserve player, the other player has to be an original member of the team. In every Round, at least 70% of games must be played by the original players.

Question 4:
What happens in the case of a points draw between third and forth place?

Answer 4:
For the first Round: Those teams with equal points will play an extra match.
For the second/third Rounds: We will look at the matches between those two (three) teams and count the points of that matches specifically. If they are equal, then we'll consider won games in total. And finally, if also won games are equal, those teams will play an extra qualifying match.
