points are overrated. Way too many of you obsess over your points and rank. Points do not determine skill. If you want to try out new maps, do so. You will probably lose some points along the way, but in the meantime the games you win with a lower rank will yield you more points than the games you win with a higher rank.

It will pretty much even itself out in the end, and since this isnt a gambling site, I think many of you put waaaaay to much stock into the MEANINGLESS points system.

2 months ago 1 had 800 points, now i am a major. I play anyone at anytime. experience is the ONLY deciding factor, the rest (drop + dice) is all luck.

Play your hearts out and dont worry about the points. eventually you will be where you think you belong.

Experience and the types of games you play. Anyone playing 1 vs 1, is not going to go up as quickly or readily as those playing 8 player or team games, just becuase of how points are distributed and the luck factor.

(that, is in case anyone doesn't know what I mean, in 8 player, you can win 1 and lose 7, but still come out ahead in points, unless the only games you win are against cooks or some such. To go up in 1 vs 1, you have to win not just a majority of games, but you have to win against players who have equal or higher ranks and not lose to many of those who are lower in rank )

Well, that's not true if you newb farm. But that's true for the most part. I remember when I was prem, I would join massive amounts of speed doodle assassin games(8 players). I would lose like three or four in a row then win two and suddenly I'm lt. again.

It's funny that you say that. Since I arrived, I've been a huge 8-player-game player - almost all I try to play. But a bit ago, I started playing almost exclusively 1-vs-1 games (to try to get five wins on every map), and I made it up to Lieutenant. I gave up on that whole plan and am back to playing the big games (because that's what I enjoy), and now I'm back to being a private.

So I have found that my score goes up a LOT playing 1-vs-1 as compared to other games.

Practice games

Practice games, that don't count for points, so you can learn a map/strategy or just take it easy.

There is also a Map Explorers usergroup, where members play games against each other on maps that they don't know very well, so they can be sure they won't get completely destroyed by an expert. They also play some team games to teach each other new maps. :)

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

he doesn't want to lose points... that is the point of this suggestion every single time it is made (usually without a form, just like this one... search is indeed your friend!)... there are plenty of ways to learn maps and strategies that work, but practicing them without losing points is not one of them...-0

Zero Points Games

Postby jammyjames on Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:24 pm

Concise description:
  • have the option to decide whether or not the game will be played for points

Specifics:
  • option in start a game, to turn off point scoring for the game

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • no bitching about dice seeing as people wont lose any points
  • allows people that just enjoy playing the game for fun to do it without the neccessity of points
  • You can have a fun game with low ranked players knowing there is no risk of a huge point cut

Feedback would be nice :)

you would have to make these games not count toward the scoreboard, otherwise people will get a very high score and just sit there.

yeah thats what i meant maasman... for instance when someone wins the game... it would say x won 0 points.... y lost 0 points... therfore not affecting scoreboard...

Postby elfish_lad on Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:06 am

Yeah. I've thought of this from the moment I joined here. "Social" it is called on multiple other sites. It, obviously, is meant as a place to meet friends, work out game-play, have fun, learn the game. It could be the place newts go (not just "?") before they get sucked into the "I gotta keep my rank up" vortex and new potential teams go before they enter the JR's "we are gonna mess you up" tourneys.

I've done a search of three years of posts and yours JJ is the only one I've found. I would love to be directed to posts I missed and any responses from the CC Lords on this question.

Cheers.

E.

Tried this a few times. Always shot down. But a nice idea if we put limitations on the number of "social" games allowed per player.

I have suggested similar things in the past; however, I oppose them now.

1. This would lead to massive point inflation. Many people have one game type that they are very good at and almost always win. But most (except the very high ranked) still play a good bit of other games and still play against decent opponents because it is more fun. If this were to be implemented, we'd have hundreds more (if not thousands more) people playing one map and settings over and over, then playing all the games they might lose on as "zero points games"
- Yes, people still specialize on one type of map and setting now to get their rank to things such as general and such, yet most don't. Why? Because most are not willing to give up 98% of the site (all other maps and game types) for points. With these types of suggestions, why would anyone NOT play only one map and setting for points.
- And all this makes the scoreboard meaningless. Everyone's rank would only show their skill at that one map and that setting, not everything else. At least now, there is some factor in of multiple game types in people's scores.

2. Zero points games would suck. Take it from a perspective of a free member. "I have no chance at all. This game will last another few weeks before I get eliminated. I kind of want to play another game. No one loses anything if I suicide them since points don't count..." It is only natural that multiplayer games with free members would end up in some free members suiciding to play other games.
- Yes, I know that most free members are not like this. Assume 1 in 10 are. About 2 free members per game... That is 1 in 5 games where it is ruined because of some guy that wanted to play another game. Sure, most of your games are good. But it will still tick people off a ton, it even does so now, even when it happens very very rarely.

Those are my main two issues with this. Here are a few of the of the others if you want to see them.

- People bitch about dice even if it doesn't cost them the game... besides, wouldn't you also get a bit pissed if dice cost you a huge game that has been going for 100 rounds and you could have won with decent dice? I highly doubt it...
- If you have a problem playing the game for fun now, then there's a problem. I understand it when people try to reach a goal of some rank because doing stuff like that is fun for them. But if you can't enjoy the game just people the icon next to your name will be a diamond instead of two swords, then you need to rethink some things.

  nice attack.. i kind of like it... obviously there would be limitations to number of games available.. for instances freemiums get an extra free space for a 'zero points game' and as premium 5..( or something along those lines ).

I think you are looking at this a tad too negatively... its a great way for players to get to know each other.. without the 'point hunters' getting mad from losing to a lower rank..

as hatch said earlier if limitations were in place then there wouldnt be any people just playing one map... and if they do who cares its their way of using their invested $25.

The point he's making (a good point, I might add by the way) is the points don't matter anyway, if you want to play a different map put your points on the line for it. It's a good way of having fun.

friendlies

Postby eddie2 on Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:14 am

this is just an idea for games is there any chance of having an option in game set up where you can play friendly matchs where no points are at stake i think this would be good for the following reasons.

1) people who like certain boards can invite higher or lower ranks to games for a challenge.

2) teams can practice boards without losing points to each other.

3) you will be able to mix friends up to find best team to play with

4) you can play games with friends without losing points

obviously there will need to be some sort of regulation to this so everybody doesnt start playing these games instead of point games.

This is a decent idea. It'd be most effective within clans to allow teams to train and have some fun without taking points from each other.
