The "Live Free or Die" monogram feels a bit Hells Angel-esque - I have no idea whether or not it's from the right period - I'm assuming it was relevant during the Revolutionary War?
Connecticut is the only abbreviation on the map? Is there any chance you could shift the names on the minimap to get the full word in there? If you can do that, then you could probably drop the "Conn - Connecticut" line at the bottom, and make do with some sort of XML naming like it instead.
