Um... yes. Long story short, my dad is Greek and has never been religious, though my extended family attends Orthodox church regularly. My mother is Italian, and is very religious. So, the deal was... since my dad wasn't religious and my mom was, thegreekdog and his brother and sister were raised Catholic.notyou2 wrote:Greek, this is a bit off topic, but do your Orthodox ancestors know you are espousing Catholicism?thegreekdog wrote:Hmm... we obviously went to different schools. As I typed, I may have exagerrated a little. My law school professors were far worse than my college professors (law being subject to interpretation more than history and all).Titanic wrote:In our seminars you have people from all ideologies and backgrounds and the professors merely encourage debate and question why people what they believe.
I couldn't disagree with you more, at least with respect to Catholics. "Angels and Demons" notwithstanding, the Catholic Church is very open to debate and critical thinking.Titanic wrote:Ironically to your statements, priests and Catholics and all religions rely on a lack of critical thinking. Religion does not promote debate or people questioning what going on or anything like that, and this happens throughout history and in the current day all over the world.

Seriously. What was it again that Trent Lott said that forced him out of his position?
Re: Poll on Racism
Trent Lott? Isn't he the guy who resigned one month before the changes to the rules on lawmakers becoming lobbyists?Phatscotty wrote:Seriously. What was it again that Trent Lott said that forced him out of his position?

I will give you that is the most interesting spin I've heard to date, however, I think.....maybe......unless I was living under a rock.....he said something........Timminz wrote:Trent Lott? Re: Poll on Racism
That's not "spin". Merely facts. He announced his resignation on November 26, 2007 (to be effective as of December 18th, 2007), and the rules changed as of January 1, 2008.Phatscotty wrote:I will give you that is the most interesting spin I've heard to dateTimminz wrote:Trent Lott? it is not the date of resignation I was suggesting you spun. I'm taking notes on your trolling abilities though.Timminz wrote:That's not "spin". Merely facts. Lott said:
"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."

The first 6 pages were great, it's all gone downhill since then.

warped? the only thing that is warped is your reading abilities. the question is completely fair, you only thinks its unfair, because in your head, some racism is good, when it suits your agenda....

Matthews said of the president:
I was trying to think about who he was tonight. And uh, it's interesting. He is post-racial, by all appearances. You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour....
Re: Poll on Racism
Meh, so what. Matthews has been around long enough and done enough for us to know it was just a slip up and nothing vicious. Any controversy from this is just pathetic.Phatscotty wrote:Matthews said of the president:

A person who is not racist, IMO, does not even consider the persons race, period.
