The mods are just dropping the tag onto any thread they click on, you might as well remove it.

That is what I see right now in the forum. There are 2 threads total that have not been marked pending, while 13 are. (not counting the resolved threads that are moved to the subforum)
One of the pending tags is 20 days old and has been locked for a while now.
The tag doesn't mean anything, you might as well save time and just stop marking threads with it.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
The mods will waste less time undergoing procedures.
[Pending] is useful in the C&A because it at least lets the author of the topic know that their report has been viewed by a C&A Moderator or Multi Hunter. I think it's more helpful to keep it than get rid of it.

How is it helpful if 90% of the topics are marked pending and some remain pending for weeks?

its a handy function... also makes it more organised for the hunters, as they can see what cases they have looked at or have been looked at by another mod

Yes, it is very handy for the mods...to mark it and ignore it for a while all the while appearing to be doing something about all of them.
