The Fallout 3 Thread
In this thread we will discuss Fallout 3 ad nauseum for the sole purpose of defying TeletubbyPrince's royal edict. I encourage everyone to post anything even tangentially related to Fallout 3, or the rest of the series.
If you don't have the game, or have never played it, or have no idea what we're talking about, don't worry, you'll learn by reading this thread.
Bonus points if you post images and or media associated with the game, especially the music.
First, everyone post your character's name, if you've played it, or what name you would choose if you did play it. Mine is Ender.

Sounds like only you 3 losers play it
Here's a tip: it's a repetative, poorly made shooter for idiots with too much time.

I am pretty sure they shut down flame wars. Also using your spell check may help with the spelling errors, which would actually give you some credibility.
repetative = repetitive

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread
Considering that virtually every FPS is obscenely repetitive, I'm not sure how much one can call out Fallout 3 for it. Compared to Halo for instance it is about as far from repetitive as it can get. I liked it a lot. Of course, a game with a reasonably worked out plot and a world open to exploration makes me drool. It isn't for everyone.

I don't play video games, but if I did, I am sure I would enjoy Fallout 3.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread
My Fallout 2 character's name is Lump.
Lump specialized in melee, unarmed, and throwing. It was fun way to play the game without really being good at guns, I'd run at people and beat them to death, but sometimes it would get a little tough....
I really loved Fallout and Fallout 2, and Fallout 3 looked all pretty, but there wasn't much to really do. No big cities, hardly any sub-quests (that actually mattered or were at least enjoyable), usually the subquests consisted of collecting some lame ass nuka-cola, or something else as equally boring or lame. A lot of the places started to look the same (just like Oblivion), and the conversations were very dry and boring--unlike Fallout 2 and 1. I really enjoyed playing Fallout 3 for a few days, but after seeing past the fancy graphics and that awesome way of shooting people (i'll give them props for that), the game wasn't all that great--it really lacked interesting NPCs and conversations, stories/sub-quests that actually tied to one another (or mattered at all), difficulty, and more in-depth consequences.
Most of the subquests only lasted a few quests, sometimes even 1, but the developers of that game could've expanded them, thus giving more appeal and interest in the game.

And the music sucked, and that's why Three Dog (AWWOOOOOOOOOO) mysteriously died by a landmine-in-the-pants.
"*I'm a big strong guy and blah blah blah"
That music made me sick after hearing the same songs over and over and over and over and over, they could've added much better tracks, or the type of music where you wouldn't get sick of listening to it for a few hours (like fallout 1 and 2).

I'm playing CoD:MW2 right now. So f*ck this thread. And the Russians.
I haven't played Fallout; I was told at Game Stop that it was a FPS along the lines of Bioshock and nothing like Halo. Bioshock to me was predictable and boring, so I don't have any interest in Fallout. For $60 it's just not my thing.

The open world sandbox type games are my favorite. Oblivion was amazing. I liked Fallout 3, but I agree with some posts that it wasn't what it could have been. Liked it anyway. Mass Effect 2 has me waiting with bated breath.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread
Juan, i don't think fallout 3 can be reasonably compared with Bioshock; I am not sure what the person meant who told you that. It is really closer to Oblivion, but in a post apocalyptic setting. These types of games are boring to some people. A guy at work and I often trade games. He hates the Oblivion type stuff. He didn't like Mass Effect either. He says these games have "way too much talkin"
He prefers Halo, CoD, GoW, etc. Those get old for me after a while. No accounting for taste, I guess.

You wouldn't like Dragon Age Origins then. It is almost too slow for me. I started it, then thought I would immediately take it back. But I am giving it a chance. So far it is a whole lotta talkin'.hahaha3hahaha wrote:Played 10 minutes and hated it. I probably would've enjoyed the 360 game but on computer I simply couldn't handle the slow start.

Yes Dragon Age was a dissapointment, but not because of the talking. The combat was screwed up and all the sidequests were repative trash like Fallout 3's (LOL GO KILL 10 MOLERATS LOL SO FUN XD)ser stiefel wrote:You wouldn't like Dragon Age Origins then. I tried playing through Fallout 3, got to that one town with a nuke in the middle of it, and was bored tp crap. Fable 2 I got a bit farther, but ended up being the same reason.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread
I think the problems arise whenever there's an attempt at fitting action, experience points, roleplaying and plot into one game. Especially with lots and lots of respawning enemies. It often ends up being the best of two worlds merging into a pile of shit.
If 90% of the time is spent fighting enemies you can't have much of a plot of any kind, experience-based leveling and respawning enemies can defeat nearly any attempt at player-driven plot development. Try to put in all of that and most often the game will be too slow, too repetitive, too talky, too much everything and not enough of anything.
That said, Fallout 3 wasn't all bad, of course, the first thing I did (even before starting the game) was to get some mods for it. Textures, meshes, changing a few things about the leveling system, a few things for optimizing performance, the usual stuff, nothing fancy like new quests or items. The main quest is of course so short that it's ridiculous, but there are a few points where you can leave it and go off exploring and have it make sense, which helps offset that. The enemies are pretty well spread out so you don't get into a fight all the time but can still get your precious XPs if you want them. Yeah, many of the sidequests are moronic, but some were also really good (Murdered family, hidden city and cannibalism trait anyone? Good times! Amazing what delivering a letter can lead to.) I think the game has too little replay value though, no matter how you try, I don't think you can play it more than 3 times and still enjoy it. It isn't worth 60$, no game is, but if you see it for 5 or 10 somewhere, go ahead and get it, it's even DRM free. That by itself is something worthy of being supported financially.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread
It's not that those games have too much plot/fighting, it's that the devs go for quantity over quality and the content you do get is boring shit spread out over 50 hours. Baldurs Gate, Deus Ex and all those old classics show that if the quality's good there's room for both action and roleplaying features.MeDeFe wrote:I think the problems arise whenever there's an attempt at fitting action, experience points, roleplaying and plot into one game. Also the problems with Fallout 3 are not the leveling system, length or whatever else you're trying to blame. The problem is that it's a dull, lifeless and repetative world with poor graphics design and incredibly gay gameplay (HURR IT TAKES 50 SHOTS TO KILL SOMEONE!!1!!). The quests, including the one you described, are also linear piles shit with a stupid twist at the end. Bethesdas games are all basically WoW offline...

Well that is queer. You hate all the most popular FPS games? Try playing Rockstar's Table Tennis game. CoD:MW2 set the record for the biggest entertainment opening of all time. Just ask Kanye. & explain "dumbed down."TeletubbyPrince wrote: Enjoy your 6 hour shooting with dumbed down multiplayerI really don't see why people would buy MW2 when its multiplayer is practically the same as the first one (only with worse lag and more cheaters).
And I don't have online play. When I buy a game it has to be for the campaign, or multiplayer off the same console.
