Well what people tend to forget about that case is that she got 2nd and I'm pretty sure she also received 3rd degree burns, because the coffee was heated at dangerously high levels. That McDonald's establishment decided to forego health standards/rules by heating the coffe at an extremely high temperature in order to increase customer service speed.

I wouldn't want to support the notion that she deserves that much money, but that lawsuit and the punishment placed on McDonald's serves as a good warning for them to properly adhere to safety standards.

(I'm not arguing with your other points over the reasoning of why this and that happens and how it can be ridiculous because it really can be. I'm just providing more insight to this particular case.)

I can buy that, except...part of the levy against McDonald's should have been that they LOWER THE TEMPERATURE OF THE COFFEE, rather than simply putting a warning label on the cup. But it wasn't, as far as I'm aware...it seems just as damn hot as always.

I'm pretty sure they were warned about it because one of main points made during that case was that the coffee was being heated at extremely high and unsafe temperatures. For failing to comply with health and safety standards, they lost a lot money from that point alone. The coffee they serve you now should be at the suitable hot temperature (just not as scaldingly hot as the coffee that injured that lady), but maybe at the McDonald's you frequent you could have a profitable settlement right in your lap just waiting to be exploited... (Just kidding. You're a good man, but if the money's right... )

Lost me on the first page, and I was ready to lol about Entourage and MySpace... Guy clearly doesn't get hip hop. Clearly has never listened to the masters of the art form, who also happen to be socially conscious, like Kweli, The Roots, Mos Def, Common, Q-Tip, Michael Franti, et al (all of whom are college educated, which is more educated than most rock bands, btw).

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that RAPE belt buckle supposed to be some kind of a statement about the tragedy following Hurricane Katrina (however misguided it might be)?

I'm bringing this quote over from another thread, because it reminds me of something that better belongs in this thread. Below, I'll post the links to the material I was reminded of. It highlights both what I dislike about Americans in general, and what I love about Americans in general. Basically, Larry the Cable Guy embodies that which I am ashamed of, and David Cross embodies the articulate anger and freedom of expression I love.

I do remember some people posting some story about how national healthcare would totally suck. They mentioned shit about how people would be judged on how much money they would theoretically earn the country and they'd be given/denied care based on that.

They mentioned how Stephen Hawking (who is brilliant) would never have gotten the care he needs if he'd been born in a system of socialized healthcare.

On the Larry The Cable Guy thing...

I think it shows what's great about the US. Namely, that Larry The Cable Guy (who actually is intelligent) can create a character and a show to make loads of loot based on an idiot.

And when David Cross says that his open letter is not "written" because he's jealous of Larry The Cable Guy, well, he's lying. I don't find Larry the Cable Guy funny, but I don't find David Cross funny either. This "letter" is indicative of some major psychological problem that David Cross has.

I also love how David Cross thinks that "we're now in a time of a lack of intelligence," as if we were ever in a time where intelligence was more valued than now. David Cross is a sanctimonious, self-indulgent, jealous, psychologically disturbed person.

David Cross is an asshole. You don't need Artie Lange to tell you that. That doesn't mean he's not an insightful comic. Larry the Cable Guy, meanwhile is probably an ass as well as a comic who gets by on the lowest common denominator of humor.
