Tupence's Birthday Bonanza! - Round 4 [Abandoned]

Postby JoJo123 on Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:27 pm

New Thread. New Organizer. Same Tournament. Happy Birthday Tupence!

Tupence wrote:PLEASE JOIN IF YOU CAN TAKE YOUR TURNS MORE THAN ONCE A DAY
(i.e. signing on more than once per day, or staying on for a long period of time)

This is Tupence’s Birthday Bonanza!

The tournament is designed for 60 players, but I will take more if there is interest, or a minimum of 48.

As long as 48 players have signed up, the tournament will begin on August 1st (one guess why).

Premium only please, with 98% attendance or higher.

This tournament will reward players who can win on a variety of maps, and those who join and finish their games quickly.

There will not be a set number of games; instead there will be a set number of days!

show: Settings

There will be “rounds” of 10 days where play is continuous, with play-offs being played without time-limit at the end of each “round”.

Based on the number of players, here’s how many measured days of play there will be:

show: Length of Tournament

For ease of explanation, I will use the 60-player model for all further details.

Players will be divided into 5 divisions of 12 according to their CC score at the time of the tournament starting. Division 1 will be the Top 12 players, Division 2 will be players 13-24, etc.

For 10 days, the players will play as many games as they can, including a mix of 2-4 player, standard, terminator and assassin, to be decided by http://www.random.org (for further details please see below).

Each game will earn players points, and at the end of the 10 days the Divisions will be frozen.

show: End of Round

At the end of every third round (after play-offs etc), the bottom division will be eliminated from the tournament. Play-offs, promotions and relegations will happen as normal.

Once we are down to just one division of 12 players, a double-length round will be played. At the end of this round the player who tops the division will be declared the winner!

Now the complicated bit!

No problem ;)

There will be 5 more days in this round (round 3). I have already tallied the scores from the previous round 3 games. They are in the second post. I'm almost sure that they are right but I'm getting used to the scoring so you might want to check your score. I haven't calculated missed turns into the scores. If you missed a turn, consider yourself lucky because they are going to count from now on!

Efreddy has left CC and Kotaro has been busted - efreddy from division 2 and Kotaro from division 4. So we are missing 2 players (and hopefully that's all). Since players will be eliminated this round, this means only 10 players will be eliminated instead of 12. The 2 players with the highest score in division 4 will advance to division 3 as planned. The player with the lowest score in division 3 will be eliminated with the rest of the players in division 4. The 3 highest scoring players from division 3 will advance to division 2, while the 2 lowest scoring players will be relegated to division 3. Division 1 will follow normal rules. So if that makes any sense at the beginning of round 4, there will be 3 divisions of 12 players each.

Tupence is taking over my spot in the tournament so we still have him here!

Day 6 will be long (until 11:59pm EST Friday night) so that we can work out any issues.

Games will be out shortly! Join within 24 hours and play quickly! :D Good luck everyone!

good tourney all...With the delay I get bumped into the division that will be wiped. Without the delay I would have won my round, but this extra time for everyone and being put into games with deadbeats, made me lose...LAME

Tupence, do NOT ask me to any more of your tourneys!

Have you looked at the scores (aka. the 3rd post)? You aren't going to be relegated so you won't be eliminated after this round. So the delay has caused no harm to you and your life is safe in the tournament until round 6 at least. However, if you wish to leave, let me know so I can keep a member of division 4 from leaving the tournament.

FYI, Tupence is a great tournament organizer. He runs some of the coolest tournaments on the site so you will be missing out.

I just read your email, I don't know why I didn't see it before. As for Tupence, this tournament had asked for players that have a high percentage of turns taken to sign up. Yet, the host turns out to go MIA for a few weeks, allows round 3 to go on longer than it was supposed too, and thus causing me to not be too interested in it anymore. It is becoming quite the norm on CC with some of the other hosts also. Just my opinion. I am going to finish out the tourneys I am in, but my comment about my not participating in his tourneys anymore stands!

Round 3 is over! All games ending after 11:59pm EST November 17th do not count!

9 players have been eliminated. There will be 2 tiebreaker games to determine who will advance to the next divisions. When they are finished we will begin round 4!

Postby JoJo123 on Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:20 pm

It's 10 games from the beginning of the round. The round began when tupence started round 3. I counted all the games from then (they counted as 5 days). I continued on with his plan of how to finish the round for a shortened period of 5 more days, which I allowed 6 days for.

The misunderstanding is that you have 10 days to finish as many games as you can in a round. Not 10 days for each game you receive.

Sorry but I dont agree with you!
First, the games:
Game 5940166 - 2 players, initialized at 2009-11-16 10:04:42, end at 2009-11-18 21:39:19 (2 days), winner: acores2005 - 1 point
Game 5918201 - 2 players, initialized at 2009-11-12 18:42:37, end at 2009-11-15 00:36:01 (3 days), winner: acores2005 - 1 point
Game 5918199 - 4 players, Assassin, initialized at 2009-11-13 19:11:55, end at 2009-11-19 12:24:32, 1 missing turn (2009-11-15 23:52:31 - Gutshots missed a turn)(1 missing turn = 1 day), 5 days, 6 days with missing turn, winner: acores2005 - 5 points

Total points to acores2005 - 7 points

My beliefs are the followings:
1 - At Round 3 Division 4, I played 3 games that I won, having a total of 7 points;
2 - According to the rules «Long Games», none of them surpassed the 6 days of play. As a mine rule and respect for the organizers, as soon as I get a PM, I enter the game, I do not blame my opponents are late to enjoy the games or missed 1 turn (1 turn = 1 day), I received PM at 12 November and I was always the first one to enter the games;
3 - After careful reading at the amendments to the arrangement of divisions and there is nothing to explain my remove of Division 4!!!
4 - Why player ubersky (7 points) advanced to the Division 3? The same with players brian c murder and jabkabatat (6 points)? I have 7 points and not have advanced!!!!!!

So I demand to re-instate the legality of this tournament

The 5/6 day round began on the 12th. I allowed the 12th and 13th to be day 6 (so that I could solve any disappearing player issues). 14th = day 7, 15th = day 8, 16th = day 9, 17th = day 10. You got points for the first 2 games you played in the shortened end to the round because they both finished on or before the 17th. The last game finished on the 19th so it doesn't count.
Also, if I'm understanding the rules correctly (which might not be true) a missed turn does not extend the number of days. The player who missed/didn't join within 24 hours gets negative points.

I'll ask for a Tupence ruling. But I think I'm right ;). However, I will humbly apologize if I am incorrect and you'll be back in.

Whoa...

It all looks very confusing, but I think JoJo has got it right.

Missed turns don't extend the length of the game at all - the idea is that the players who miss turns end up slowing down all of their own games, and therefore don't score enough points to stay in the tournament. The other players should have enough other games going to avoid being eliminated.

The length of the round begins when the first games are sent out, and the idea is that you cram in as many games as you can into that space of time. This round is my fault for leaving it in the middle and complicating matters, but based on what JoJo said at the start of the second part of Round 3 (when she took over), only games completed on or before the 17th should count.

Hope that clears everything up!
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

This is my understanding also. A missed turn is -1 point, correct? That is the penalty for messing with the time of the round.

On a totally different note, I apologize for being such a spaz last week. This past week was my 34th birthday, and couple that with a hectic graduate school schedule, I got overwhelmed and took it out on jojo and Tupence. For this I am sorry, and Tupence you can count me in your future tourneys, I know how life gets in the way sometimes!!!

See you on the battlefield, I am working my way up the ladder just to beat your armies!!!

I was going to have the uber-quote but that just looks annoying so I'll just respond to everyone.

Sorry acores, but you are eliminated. :( I do love having you in tournaments so don't hate me! ;)

kenny, happy belated birthday!!! :D I'm in grad school too so I understand the pain! Don't worry about it. :)

harvmax and heatz have advanced to the next divisions. Round 4 is ready to start but I'm going to hold off until next week so that we avoid holiday issues. Be ready to play fast once the games start!
