Forbidden City is an excellent map. The only problem with it being that games on it take forever to fill because people think it is confusing (for some reason I can't understand).jpcloet wrote:I'd have to agree to Conquerman, WW2 Ardennes and Forbidden City being lowly maps.
Now that is a hell of a good idea.sully800 wrote:Idea: What if we had the option to sort the map lists ourselves, through the control panel?
We could go through and select which maps we want to appear on the gamefinder/gallery (that way each person could pick their own favorite 50, and players with minority interests aren't screwed). Then if you wanted to see more maps you could click "see all" and have the full gallery at your disposal.
This would be very nice, because users could select only 10 or 20 maps if they wanted and have a simplified maps screen. Alternatively, some users may like to play EVERY map, and they could still have the option of viewing them all at once.
We could even automate the process by having a button in your control panel which says "Show 10, 25, or 50 most played maps". There could be other options (most played by that specific user, most popular on the site, etc.) This could also be a good place to employ the map "categories" that have been discussed so much. Since not all users would be sorting maps the same way it wouldn't really affect the popularity of maps, and yet it would make map selection much friendlier for each user.
Agreed. Someone get that out of here and into the Suggestions forum.Incandenza wrote:Now that is a hell of a good idea.sully800 wrote:Idea: What if we had the option to sort the map lists ourselves, through the control panel?

Obviously I'm all for this as there is a script to do this already (been around for a while now).sully800 wrote:Idea: What if we had the option to sort the map lists ourselves, through the control panel?

I'm also for this as well but the term "most played maps" has not been defined so that a consensus has been reached. There was a recent thread where someone suggested this could be done easily from the game finder but this is clearly not practical given we are closing on 150 maps and the game finder results would have to be sorted. I think this needs to be defined and agreed first and then we have a better chance of completing this good suggestion. We could even automate the process by having a button in your control panel which says "Show 10, 25, or 50 most played maps". Never mind the fact that older maps will TEND to have more games played on them than...less old ones. So game-finder results wouldn't necessarily be accurate unless some method of accounting for how long the map has been around was used.chipv wrote:I'm also for this as well but the term "most played maps" has not been defined so that a consensus has been reached. Great suggestion - put it in the Suggs & Bugs forum.WidowMakers wrote:Allow personalized filters (like PM inbox folders) that each member can set themselves.
Everyone would have a default BETA filter for when new maps come out. (cannot be deleted)
And if a person does not customize anything, the default filter is called ALL MAPS

- 1) no one should have any issue with keeping all maps.
2) Classification and filtering is up to each individual
3) The map selection screen can be cleaned up
4) We will all be happy.
This is a great idea, it works for everyone. I would add one thing. Make a "sort by" button on the find a game page, that would allow for one of two options. Most played or alphabetical listing.WidowMakers wrote:Allow personalized filters (like PM inbox folders) that each member can set themselves.

Thanks for putting that idea in an easy to understand format!WidowMakers wrote:Allow personalized filters (like PM inbox folders) that each member can set themselves.

It's not the size of the jar - it's the writing on the outside that stops you seeing the pickles in the jar...mibi wrote:Why remove any maps?
The issue is not the number of pickles we have... it's the size of the jar.

That requires coding and effort. Removing maps is much easier.WidowMakers wrote:I still don't see why we can't just let everyone choose for themselves.
Hardcode the option to setup map selection filters per account. DONE!
No more complaining or hard to find maps and then the map selection screen can show thumbnails again instead of that horrible list option.
There will be a drop down list based on each persons filters (basic, hard, complex, large, abstract, WW2,etc)
When they pick their filter, the corresponding thumbnails will be loaded and they can choose accordingly.
