Getting friend to join, but may look like multi? [noted]

Postby urbansloth on Mon Oct 12, 2009 7:39 pm

Hi all,

First up, great work to you guys keeping this site clean, you do an awesome job...

I'm trying to get a mate I work with to join, but thinking we could look like multis to you guys, cos we'll be playing from work (don't ask!) using the same proxy, and then when/if we do play from home, we both use work-supplied 3G cards, which draw from a limited pools of addresses. To make it worse, we may even use the same machine at times (a lab PC in the middle).

To start we'll prob only play doubles (same team) while I school him up - that should be cool right? And I guess later if we play each other we'll keep it to just us - no problem there.

Is this OK? Or shall I tell him to beat it? That's not a problem either, I would take great pleasure in fact... :P

cheers,

dave out...

PS: Is team strategy chat OK offline, or does that have to be in game chat too?

Should have said specifically - I've got no problem with us staying away from singles games with other players as well, that's only fair...

You'll be fine with talking about team strategy out of game chat. That's not a big deal. I'm sure you know that secret diplomacy is illegal though. Anyway just saw this post randomly, thought I'd tell you it's fine too play with your friends. I think you are even allowed to play singles--multi player games, as long as one doesn't toss it too the other, basically keep it competitive and don't favor one another...

I would suggest you avoid multi-player singles unless you know the other players. My wife and I both play here and we very seldom play multi-singles, but when we do it is with people who know us.

Team chat you can do anyway you want too. Smoke signals, telegraph or two tin cans tied together with string. The only chat that has to be public is when two teams or two players in a singles game are forming an alliance.

As I said, we won't both be playing singles games that involve others, only singles by ourselves against other randoms, or 2 player game against each other.

Another thing forgot to mention which may freak out the multi-hunters - he uses an email address under my personal domain!

So from what I'm hearing....no problems, as long as we don't play singles against others - true? Can someone of some authority confirm? (apologies to JCKing and Evil Semp if you are that authority)

I'm in a similar situation. My twin brother has seen me playing and wants to join, I haven't allowed him to do so because you guys would say we're multis.

Also, we only have only one computer, we are from Mexico and are very poor.

Can he join? we will be playing team games only.

As far as I know, if you give the mods the heads up, it's ok. I had a similar case with my flatmate:

Yea EvilSemp is authority :). Not me, I just said what I though ASAP so ur friend could join. It probably is best to stick to doubles, and maybe 1v1, and if you have other friends join the site then they can play to. But with other randoms I don't think it would be best if you joined with ur friend.
