Re: NHL Season begins!
Stanley Cup - Detroit
MVP - Dan Cloutier who will pull it out of no-where
Eastern - Carolina
Western - Detroit
I think thats pretty good, btw Dan Cloutier is a goalie.

Re: NHL Season begins!
The Blackhawks will prevail against the Red Wings in the Conference Finals this year and go on to take the Cup, which will lead to Serbia burning all of his Mike Vernon memorabilia and moving to Berwyn.
Write it down...it's going to happen.

Sharks all the way....

Blackhawks are too young. Won't make it out of the second round this year. The playoffs just broke right for them last year.

Re: NHL Season begins!
i think new jersey has a chance this year
Re: NHL Season begins!
Actually, I've changed my mind. In keeping with Marian Hossa's new tradition of watching another team win the Stanley Cup at home, I've decided that Chicago will lose to the Flyers.

It may only be two games into the season, but those young guns in Denver sure are looking sharp to start this season off.

Re: NHL Season begins!
capitals did not look good in the 3rd period yesterday. score should have been 7-1 not 6-4.
Re: NHL Season begins!
F the Penquins
BTW - New Jersey is finished. They're window closed a long time ago when Scott Stevens retired and then Niedermeyer left.
Hopefully this is the year the Flyers finally win the cup.
Emery looks like a stud so far.
the combo of Timonen and Pronger gives them their best defensive unit since the 80's
and JVR and Giroux are future stars.
their best threat? Gary Bettman promoting Cindy Crosby and telling the refs to give them another cup.

Re: NHL Season begins!
Flyers suck, they have no goaltending. It will be pens and caps fighting for the eastern chamionship.
I am a pens fan so I would love to see a repeat, but I doubt that it can happen.

Re: NHL Season begins!
Screw you Penquin fan,
Ray Emery is going to surprise you.
The Caps?
they're a one man team
They can't compete with the Flyers depth.
tell me who in the conference has a better defensive unit and more forward depth than the Flyers?
you cant because you probably only know the big stars that Gary Bettman promotes

Re: NHL Season begins!
well, i don't know who the flyers have, but your ex-boy knuble scored a nice dirty power play goal for the caps. i enjoyed watching that.gannable wrote:Screw you Penquin fan,

to counter your point about forward depth though, the capitals had 4 forwards score 20 or more goals last year, and had another (fleischmann) had 19.
we've got semin, backstrom, ovie obviously... clark, knuble, and morrison give us some grit... steckel (who i personally don't like) was the 5th best at faceoffs last year and has been superb again this year.
honestly, we don't have a great defense, and having varlamov and theodore split games isn't a good idea, i'd like us to stick with one.
in conclusion though, i think caps would simply outpace the flyers with a ridiculous scoring attack

Thank you, but I'm going to have to decline based on the fact that I won't care until football is over (Go Broncos!), and I won't start caring about football until baseball is over (Go Red Sox!).gannable wrote:Screw you Penquin fan

Re: NHL Season begins!
the fact that you dont know who the Flyers have is all I really need to know
you probably just became a caps fan a couple years ago because of Ovechin.
the Flyers next 6 forwards after Ovechikin are better than anything the Caps have to offer.
from lines 1-4 there's really no comparision between the flyer/caps forwards. the flyers have 4 good lines and the arguably the best defensive corp in the East with Calgary having the best in the league. even my penquin friends told me last during the playoffs that the Flyers were way better than the Caps. They felt it was close to even between the Pens/flyers in terms of play but the Caps were just a one man gang.
who knocked the Craps out 2 years ago?

Re: NHL Season begins!
well, you're right about me becoming a bigger hockey fan in general because of ovechkin, although i did enjoy watching games now and then before that, i just never really got into it. i think that's fair though... washington never really was a big hockey town until ovie, and you can argue even now that we aren't a hockey town (i'd probably agree with that)gannable wrote:the fact that you dont know who the Flyers have is all I really need to know

as for who the flyers have, you still haven't dignified me with a proper response of who and why they're better than the washington forwards... the only people i can name off the top of my head right now are gagne and richards. i don't even know if gagne is still plaing tho.
and 2 years ago is a long time, especially in sports. neither team is the same. for example, we now have knuble. you don't. we don't have huet. you still haven't figured out your goalie sitation from last year (then again, i guess we haven't either...) we'll see what happens when we play

All hail Baron von Wolski!!!pimphawks70 wrote:Amen... Especially WolskiOptimus Prime wrote:It may only be two games into the season, but those young guns in Denver sure are looking sharp to start this season off.
I'm not so sure it won't be him, rather than Duchene who takes over for Joe Sakic as far as leading this team is concerned. Wolski is something special, all he needed was to walk out of the shadows.
