I'd just like to say I agree with the flat rate first turn stuff. esp. because of lux. This happens in lots of games, not just 1 on 1s. Its just a tiny bit less important in a giant 8 player game if it happens to happen. Doesn't make it a good thing.
- No zone bonus until round 2 begins
- Everyone deploys the same amount of troops on turn 1 regardless of regions owned

Stop whining... yes, continent drops can seal the game, but it should be kept for 2 reasons:
1. You have an equal chance of being dropped the bonus as your opponent.
2. I've won games where my opponent was dropped SA or Aussie. It's not like the game is all luck, you still have to know how you are going to fight.

If I understand this logic (ignoring the rhetorical aspects) then the suggestion is that it is occassionally possible to overcome unfair drops and that unfair drops even out if you play lots of games.slowreactor wrote:Stop whining... yes, continent drops can seal the game, but it should be kept for 2 reasons:

Ok.
However, the orginal point is not a self-ish one.
Bonus drops create rubbish games, for all players, including the beneficiary.
The point is about gameplay for all players rather than personal achievement.
Imagine you are sitting round a table with a board, cards and dice. Dropping Aus would make a rubbish game.

Sorry but this is an Incorrect premise to your argument: Players drop bonuses in all sorts of game. However, the problem is more likely in games with fewer players.bigreuben wrote:it's an idea that changes the basic rules of the game in favor of just one aspect of it: the 1on1 games..
Probably. He is less likely to hold the bonus though. Therefore the influence of strategy is increased and the influence of jousti-ness reduced.bigreuben wrote:if the lucky one gets to go first, he'll stuck and defend his bonus...
Some players enjoy not waiting ages for their turn. Many higher ranks avoid 1 v 1 as too much luck is involved. A change like this would increase the options for these points-conscious players.bigreuben wrote:just play big games
Making 1 v 1 less of a lottery may encourage farmers. However, it is not the cause of farming. To fix a problem it is better to attack the causes, rather than peventing it happening and causing inconvenience to everyone else. If people cheat then they should get their asses kicked rather than genuine doods getting a crap deal. Its like increasing insurance costs instead of catching burgulars!!bigreuben wrote:stop farming point in those 1on1 games

iambligh wrote:What if you were to take it to then next level -- flat rate deployment for ALL players in round 1. In other words, in a game where players start with 12 territories, each player will get to deploy 4 on his/her first turn, regardless of whether they luck into a continent bonus drop, or whether they've been decimated by the other players before their respective turns.
Not only would it prevent automatic continent bonus advantage, but it would mitigate the damage done to the unfortunate last to play, who often sees his/her bonus shrink with every turn before he/she even gets to play.
Even better idea, delaying the first player advantage as much as possible makes more more strat, less joust-i-ness.
Even without dropping bonuses, on big maps with a small number of players, going first gives a massive advantage due to the territory count.

Another idea: ascending troops to deploy first round:
Player 1 gets 1
Player 2 gets 2
Player 3 gets 3
There could in fact be 3 types of first round reinforcements:
Automatic - the lottery we have now
Flat X troops each
Ascending
Player 1 gets 1
Player 2 gets 2
Player 3 gets 3

I like the game the way it is.
If there was no luck involved in the first round then playing Cooks would be boring.
If you want to save points from losing in situations like these then you should play higher ranks or, to a lesser extent, freestyle.

You really need to change your mindset if you think this suggestion has anything to do with points.ManBungalow wrote:I like the game the way it is.

I fail to see why anyone is opposed to having games be more fair by reducing the luck factor. I have not managed to play a decent game in months, and this would really help out.
