Campaigns of Napoleon [Winner: Master Fenrir]

Postby danryan on Mon Aug 31, 2009 12:16 pm

I've never run a tournament before, so it's time to change that. For my first I am starting a tournament surrounding the great french general Napoleon. The winner of each group will go to the final. This is open to premium players only as the final will be 6 concurrently running games.

French Revolution
Napoleon was commissioned into the artillery four years before the French Revolution. The first group will play on the France 1789 map. Due to the chaos of the revolution, the games will all be assassin, foggy, chained, no spoils.

Italian Campaign
Napoleon made his reputation as a military commander with victories at Arcola and Marengo. The second group will play on the Italy map, foggy, flat rate, terminator, unlimited.

Egyptian Expedition
A disastrous attempt to establish a French presence in the Middle East which ended in ultimate failure, but the capture of Malta was a masterstroke of diplomacy. The third group will play on the Malta map. Sunny, Escalating, Adjacent, Standard.

War of the Third Coalition
The most famous of Napoleon's victories, Austerlitz, occurred during the Ulm campaign. The players will compete on the Germany map, with the following settings: Foggy, Unlimited, Escalating, Terminator.

Peninsular War
One of the most brutal conflicts ever fought, the Peninsular War featured the introduction of the word guerrilla to the world. The following settings will be used: Iberia, Foggy, Adjacent, Flat Rate, Standard.

The Hundred Days
After Napoleon returned from Elba, he cobbled together what was left of his old army on a whirlwind march to Paris, then governed for approximately one hundred days. Once his army had grown sufficiently, he led them to the north for the fateful battle at Waterloo, where the decisive intervention of the Prussians saved the day for the allies. Waterloo, Foggy, Chained, No Spoils, Standard.

When you sign up, tell me which era/campaign you'd like to be in. Each of the six group winners will be entered into a round robin final set of games, to determine the ultimate winner. 1 pt per win. No points for anything else!

To summarize: 36 players > 6 finalist > 1 crowned Emperor of France.

Put me down for the Egyptian campaign

if I make the final round, I'll repeat history... Wasn't Napoleon defeated at Waterloo?

It's a shame I couldn't figure out a map to use for it. Soviet Union is completely inappropriate as is WW2 Eastern Front. Plus it is probably the greatest mistake of Napoleon's illustrious career so I decided it could be left out. Sorry for the Borodino fans.
