Let's protend global warming doesn't exist
We're still going to run out of fossil fuels whether global warming exists or not, so we still need to develop renewable energy, which is the same thing we need to do for global warming.
Or we could just say it's our grandchildrens' problem and have fun while we can.

I am all for renewable energy, but I think that politicians making vast amounts of wealth on the carbon taxation based on false science is lame.Simon Viavant wrote:We're still going to run out of fossil fuels whether global warming exists or not, so we still need to develop renewable energy, which is the same thing we need to do for global warming.

Politicians only make money off of carbon tax so long as people continue to use fossil fuels, so, carbon tax does nothing if you are using green energy. And many politicians already have their fingers in the petro-chemical pie, and as such are already making profits from this.

Yeah, it's kind of a weird dynamic (which is interesting to me). So, as an example, Al Gore is probably going to make some money off of the carbon tax, so he has a vested economic interest in people continuing to use fossil fuels. However, he continues to maintain that the use of fossil fuels is a bad thing for the environment. I'll give the ex-VP the benefit of the doubt and say he's more interested in saving the earth than saving money, but it's very interesting.EvilPurpleMonkey wrote:What?

It's like the tobacco taxes. The amount of money they generate is no doubt astounding. However, they were put in place ostensibly to stop people from smoking. But, if people stopped smoking, they'd stop paying taxes. Oh... the conundrum these crazy politicians get themselves in.
Wait until there's a breathing tax. "Mr. dog, you've breathed 50 times this minute, please send a check to the US Department of Treaury for $1,000."

The taxes from cigarettes don't come close to paying for the health care costs they have created, and cost both states and the fed.thegreekdog wrote:EvilPurpleMonkey wrote:

THis thread speaks the truth. I mean we're overdue for alternative sources of energies anyway. Yes, but if everyone lived healthy lifestyles they would live several years longer, increasing the average life expectancy and the world population. This additional strain on global resources costs a lot more than people who die young.AAFitz wrote:The taxes from cigarettes don't come close to paying for the health care costs they have created, and cost both states and the fed.
