cs2 is a b*tch

Ok, so i'm working on russia, but the most annoying this ever is when i'm going over lines with the paintbrush or penicil etc, and one second it's curving, and the next second i can only get straight lines, with no curves. Then it just randomly goes away... any way to get rid of that? It's rediculously annoying.

If you use the pencil tool, instead of the paint brush, you can eliminate that problem. Use it as 1 px, and then if you go into the layer options you can thicken all the lines to something other than 1 px if you so wish to.

would've been great to know about that thicken lines thing before i outlined all of it.

Photoshop isn't really the best tool for designing maps. It's really a bitmap tool, and vector tols like Inkscape, Illustrator, Fireworks, Freehand etc... are all more suited to it, since you can easily draw shapes and manipulate them afterwords. Although Photoshop can do that it's not very flexible, and is more geared towards editing Photos, and montages etc...

I use illustrator ATM, but have just dl'ed fireworks, and think i'll just use those two.

Photoshop can work wonders, even for risk maps. It's just more a matter of taking the time to learn things as you go and finding the best possible ways to do things, but photoshop can surely hold it's own.

For a beginner I'd say Fireworks would be the easiest to use. Inkscape and Illustrator and suited to this kind of work, but a little more complicated.

Also, as a general suggestion I would try and give Inkscape a go. It's open source, and it's nice not to use pirated stuff. Also, Photoshop Elements is about $99 and is very good, if you want to go down that route. If you're a student, you can also get a educational version of Macromedia Studio 8 for personal use for about $150 or so.

GIMP is pretty easy to use... And is open source...
It's what I've been using for my Japan Map... I looked at Inkscape, and I can't figure it out
