The last few points have tried to make Atheism and Christianity both sound stupid. If the argument for a God is stupid and the argument for there not being a God is stupid, then what other options are available? tbh, Christianity is less believable but that is my opinion.

I believe she's a dangerous lunatic who doesn't understand logic nor the ability to think critically. And in case your response is the typical sort of stupidity I've learned to expect from Christians, I'm a Christian.jay_a2j wrote:She must believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Good for her!Woodruff wrote:It's like my sister says..."The Bible says God exists, so he does". I wish I were joking.xelabale wrote:Look it's simple. God is a fact. Thus, the proof of God is that God is a fact. If there was no God it wouldn't be a fact, but in fact God is a fact. If God wasn't a fact, it wouldn't be a fact, but that's not factual. When you factor in the fact that Jesus was in fact God's son there's yet more facts to factor in. If you want and it doesn't infract the rules I'll fax the facts to you.
Thus have I proved that God exists and ye who doubt might be smited in spite of their might. Good night.

Gotta be honest with you, I don't blame them. I expect people to make an effort to speak English here, why shouldn't they expect people to make an effort to speak French there? It seems absurd to expect otherwise, to me.Snorri1234 wrote:Yeah but the french are horrible bastards. They do acknowledge you when you try to speak french though. I got laughed at by a couple of females in the bakery, cause I only spoke English.

Indeed, I mentioned how much the french and the americans are alike in that regard. I come from a culture where we don't expect that (mostly because dutch is fucking hard to learn) so I don't have the same feeling. However, I accept it since if I had a big country I would do the same thing.Woodruff wrote:Gotta be honest with you, I don't blame them. I mean, you know someone will get laughed at if he tries to speak french in a bakery in the US. Hell, at least the french learn some basic english at school. (It's pretty shit compared to some other countries in europe, but at least it's there.)

Not at all.JoshyBoy wrote:A good point well made.jay_a2j wrote:

Besides, its the religious who believe in all things magical...not the atheists.

Could you elaborate on that, players?PLAYER57832 wrote: Backglass wrote:Besides, its the religious who believe in all things magical...not the atheists.
This is equally untrue.
First, it is wrong to say that all people of any one group believe a certain way (e.g., "the religious"), but you could say that atheists are generally more willing to accept knowledge gained scientifically before any other type of knowledge. Most religions do indeed teach that some things happen/ed because of a spirit or spirits acting outside the realm of scientific laws. Isn't that what magic is?

I know atheists who believe in astrology...and homeopathic medicine (a.k.a. sympathetic magic).

yeah me too. Allthough they're not really that atheist. (They believe in "something" as opposed to "a god")jonesthecurl wrote:I know atheists who believe in astrology...and homeopathic medicine (a.k.a. sympathetic magic).
I still argue with them that they're stupid though. I'm from a medical family and I have almost no tolerance for homeopathy.

I've got people to admit that it was all scientific bullshit but they still maintained that there was still "something more to it".jonesthecurl wrote:that's more than I do.

Well, this is my
I know we can all think of examples of atheists who believe in things without evidence (e.g., homeopathy - i know this is a big topic for you folk over in the UK, and I agree that it's BS!). But religious people, by definition, trust in some supernatural explanations over natural explanations.
Well, this is practically the first time I've participated in the CC forums. I just saw this topic and wanted to check it out. Anyway, I was asking PLAYERS57832 to elaborate on his opinion that it is "equally untrue" that "its the religious who believe in all things magical...not the atheists."zebraman wrote: anthroguy wrote:Could you elaborate on that, players?

I think she was more talking about "all things magical". They do believe in something supernatural (or magical) but it's a bit dickish to imply they take anything on faith.anthroguy wrote:

Cross out "wizard" and put "God" there and you'd be on to something.

No, because then the idea would start to make more sense, and it becomes harder to make fun of it. Better just to straw-man it and make it sound ridiculous.jay_a2j wrote:Cross out "wizard" and put "God" there and you'd be on to something.

It sounds equally ridiculous with "god" there. It's just difficult to show that using a term that most people take seriously as is. Try replacing "wizard" with "Baal." See? Ridiculous.

Why is it that so many can make a strong case for God, but almost nobody can make a strong case for a wizard? Because wizards are already established as being FICTIONAL. It's more atheist propaganda. Why can't people see that?Neoteny wrote:It sounds equally ridiculous with "god" there. It's just difficult to show that using a term that most people take seriously as is.
