Omg where's classic! :(
Hi all. I know I know this old news.
Ain't been here in while. Thought I'd pop back in for a few games.
Where's classic. I'm guessin legal issues?
How can anyone have a copyright on the world board?
Just change one thing and copyright issues sorted.
Can someone sound me out.
I'm gutted

Hasbro Inc because they have the copyright of the game and as CC saysGeneral Mayhem wrote:How can anyone have a copyright on the world board?

It was changed and separated due to potential copyright infringements that could have possibly been incurred.

BS. How can anyone argue that CC is not associated with RISK?? Ithink they have a legit lawsuit. I'm going to email Hasbro, see what we can do. Since this site has become holy and family oriented, we should ensure that it's not breaking any copyright rules because to me it clearly is a copy of RISK.
Lack would look so cute in handcuffs.

It wasn't even the same map in the first place, it just looked similar. Kamchatka couldn't hit Mongolia in the CC version (and it still can't).
Re: Omg where's classic! :(
Yeah but I think lack should have confirmed with Hasbro that they were ok before creating a site copying their game. Maybe he did, who knows. But a simple email will clear all this up. Will keep you posted.BaldAdonis wrote:It wasn't even the same map in the first place, it just looked similar. Kamchatka couldn't hit Mongolia in the CC version (and it still can't).

in the past hasbro has changed the game of risk many times, both versions were issued at some point in time by hasbro.

very intriguing.Copyright infringement (or copyright violation) is the unauthorized use of material that is covered by copyright law, in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.

they should sue the people that made dungeons and dragons then, because dont they use dice to gauge attacks? dont they use maps? sounds 'derivative', plus those guys have more money i would think....

Re: Omg where's classic! :(
I'm sorry hasbro are a joke. There are shit loads of games out there that borrow the ideas from other games. Connect 4 is available on the iPhone etc etc.
And what about fckin chess. Where does one draw the line?
If fckin hasbro are so pissed why the cock fuckin hell didn't they have the forsight to put risk online in it's original format. f*ck em
I know I'm going over old ground here but the simple world map is a cornerstone.
Lack. Have you spoke to the lux lot to see if they had issues from hasbro

Re: Omg where's classic! :(
i know i'm beating a dead horse, but i wish the powers that be, would get a set and deal with hasbro, i joined this site for the classic map, not for the lame imitations that came out later. i know there are other good maps, but i still prefer the original.
Re: Omg where's classic! :(
out of curiosity is it the play or the "world" part or what that breaks the copyright?

Re: Omg where's classic! :(
It is the actual map and it's likeness to Hasbros map combined with the usage of a game system similar to the one Hasbro uses. AFAIK using any one component is not illegal (and that's why the site is still up) and even the graphics change (to Shapes and Art) is enough to not be a illegal copycat.a.sub wrote:out of curiosity is it the play or the "world" part or what that breaks the copyright?

Hellloooo folks, back from my 72 hour ban. Had plenty of time to look into this. I sent an email to Hasbro, they are looking into it. would that be ok?

disgruntled customers you say, shut your mouth, we are all supposed to be shiny happy people in the brave new world of conquer club. you must have missed your daily dose of " soma " You will need to be reeducated, before being allowed to further spew any more disinformation.Timminz wrote:Gee. Re: Omg where's classic! :(
Based on what I understand about intellectual property law (and that isn't too much but generally enough), a map that looks like risk and has the exact same game play as risk infringes on hasbro intellectual property. Hasbro needs to challenge anyone who does this to ensure their intellectual property doesn't become public domain. However the actual mechanics of game play (unless patented) are open for anyone to use. So replacing the world map with a different world map with different connections etc would move it far enough away from risk. However if you were to make a game like Magic The Gathering and have a mechanic where your card "taps" you would be faced with a lawsuit based on the patent relating to the "tapping" card mechanic. This type of law is a complicated thing indeed.

Kind of like Classic Art or Canada you mean???a.sub wrote: so if we made a map with similar game play and a word design but didnt look a thing like hasbro's

Would need to look like magic too though. There are plenty of card games out there that uses the tapping mechanic that are fully legal.dolomite13 wrote: However if you were to make a game like Magic The Gathering and have a mechanic where your card "taps" you would be faced with a lawsuit based on the patent relating to the "tapping" card mechanic.
