Republican or Democrat?

Postby Gandalf40 on Sat Jan 20, 2007 4:59 pm

So I'm just wondering if the majority of people on this site are Republican, Democrat, Other, or not a registered voter in the U.S.

My guess is that the largest number will be people from other countries. If I had to guess I would say that about half of the people I play with are in Europe. So I am interested to find out how many of you guys live in the U.S. and what side you take on the political scale.

I am a small-l libertarian minarchist, who would rather live in an Anarcho-Capitalist paradise. I am a registered Independent, and more often then not vote big-l Libertarian or Democrat (I think the Republican party is a closet fascist party. I agree on neither there economic goals, interventionist (on both the global and national scale) policies, or their social goals.).

I believe that everyone should have access to firearms, welfare both social and corporate should be eliminated, election reform that would remove the monopoly the two major parties have on the electoral system, abortion should be legal (none of this "leave it to the states" shit), taxation should be eliminated, the government privatized, capital punishment eliminated, a non-interventionist policy, elimination of cushy corporation laws, ending the drug war, and allowing homosexual adoption/marriage.

True, but how do I change it now? Use the third party option and I will just think of you as a party of one.

Personally I am in the same boat. I got signed up under a party once and donated some money. But then I got interested in where my money was going so I did some research and found out some very interesting stuff. It 2004 if you gave money to John Kerry's campaign one third of those funds where spent getting a Democrat as governor of Washing state. And if you gave money to the George Bush a third of it went to funding his 'No child left behind' bill.

After that I let any membership I had expire because I wasn't going to be the one to put more fuel on the fire by giving more money.

When I edit I don't get any poll options. I had them when I created the post but I see nothing now.

So as a minarchist you believe in maintaining a (less intrusive and smaller) state, complete with at least some degree of law enforcement, military etc. and as an anarcho-capitalist you believe that there should be no state whatsoever, the state having gained an aggressive monopoly...

???

Also describing an Anarcho-Capitalist society as a 'paradise' is an interesting view in itself!

doesnt it undermine voting if you register yourself with a party.. if everyone in the U.S did that nothing would ever change
Would you choose supremecy if it lead to isolation?

I'm going to report the last-post-but-one to the moderators. I accidentally stumbled on that image, and I don't think such outlandishly pornographic images should be allowed. Please, think of the children.

I am minarchist in that I don't live like an anarcho-capitalist (unfortunately). I still pay taxes, I still fill have to give in to gun laws, among other things. As such, I would ideally be an Anarcho-Capitalist, but by reality I am a Minarchist.

Surely the fact that the US is certainly not a minarchy means that you aren't one. If you aspire to anarcho-capitalism your an anarcho-capitalist and if you aspire to minarchy your a minarchist.

I am not registered with any political party. I am too conservative to be a good Democrat and a little too liberal to be a full Republican.

Why not stay there and sort out the mess we've made... Save some lives. perhaps a little more important than saving face.

I'm going to be a registered democrat in a few weeks, so i thought i might as well jump the gun

Seeing how crappy our voting patterns are, and how we seem to not learn form mistakes i'd really suggest we switch to an Oligarchy of technocrats, every important position filled by a series of tests, and anonymous application procedures. Have a governing body made up of a head of the military, head of finance, head of civil legislation, head of foreign affairs, head of education, head of environment and any other aspects of government i've glossed over. This way we don't have another Ted Stevens in charge of our internet, or a director of a major branch of defense whose only background is in horse racing.

The Chinese did it right a thousand years ago, we should learn from our past and use it to improve the future

I used to be registered Socialist Party USA, but I've moderated some and now affiliate myself with the Democratic Socialists of America, so I'm registered Democrat. Also, I used to live in a state where anybody could vote in any primary, so it didn't really matter what party I was registered under, but in the state I live in now you are politically disenfranchised during Primary season unless you're a member of one of the big two, which is another good reason why I'm registered Democrat now.
