GAMES AND TYPES OF GAMES TO AVOID
I suggest avoiding these, only if you are worried about points, or losing. If you just want to have fun, and challenge yourself, join away, just be realistic about your odds of winning.
Freestyle. If you do not have click maps, and if you do not know all the tricks, just avoid it for a while..or play one or two, but not too many
Big maps. Most of the big maps give veterans an advantage. There are more choices and therefore more chances to miss something. For veterans, the bigger the better, for the new player, the smaller the better, in general.
Technical or specialty maps Again, this is only if you care about winning or points. These maps are alot of fun, but the people who play them regularly have an unbelievable advantage on them. Examples are Mogul, Age of realms 1, 2 & 3, waterloo, etc. Always look at the map first before joining. If it looks complicated, either join expecting to lose, which is what I do, or simply join a less complicated one.
Team Games. If you dont know who youre partner is going to be, and you join a game with an established team and experienced players, there is little chance of winning. The bigger they get, the less likely your odds. Again, you have to learn sometime, but finding a consistent partner would be better place to start, than randomly hoping for one.
At some point you will love playing these maps, but the game is more easily understood on the more basic ones. Once you have some fun with those, the principles will apply to the bigger ones.

Freestyle with many people is fine, as long as it is not speed. I can see where casual freestyle might be a problem with few players, but when you get to have many in the game, the game goes by faster and is more enjoyable.

Iberia can be quite fun, but the multitude of small bonuses can result in lopsided drops in 1v1 or even 3/4 player games. But for larger games, it's excellent.saulispaul wrote:would the Iberia map be one you would avoid then?

I think Iberia is a good map for all levels... except 1v1. Of course escalating spoils can end any small to midsize game quickly in a dozen or less rounds. Waterloo isn't the prettiest map, but has become one of my favorites to play by far... in a four player match any perceived advantage can turn on you in an instant on it, regardless of the settings.
Freestyle speed games on World 2.1 with five or more players used to be some of the most intense, nerve wracking fun around... but clickable maps ruined that. If you don't employ CMs with a speedy internet connection, players that do will roll right over you.

Re: GAMES AND TYPES OF GAMES TO AVOID
Well, why don't we play with people our own level, wouldn't that be more fair? And anyway, I don't see any1 giving advice and strategies about freestyle games, that's y I stay away myself

Also... if you are new and trying to get a "good feel" for the game
consider avoiding FOG OF WAR games until you've seen how
the game tends to be played.

Clickable maps allows you to drop armies by clicking on the territory, also to attack in the same way. There are several add on's for cc. All of the ones I know require you to use firefox (a browser you can download for free, and use in place of internet explorer) and grease monkey. Grease monkey is a script you can download that works with firefox. There are several good add on's, here are three i use:Manny Killer wrote:what's a click map?

I love freestyle games, You don't have to wait 300 days to finish a game. ALSO you have the chance to go "twice" against a certain opponent.

Re: GAMES AND TYPES OF GAMES TO AVOID
I would think avoiding the countless trips and quads games that are just waiting for new players who think "I'd like to have a crack at a team game...I wonder who my partners will be?" would be a good start.

that is an excellent one to add... I wonder if i subconsciously blocked itMr Changsha wrote:I would think avoiding the countless trips and quads games that are just waiting for new players who think "I'd like to have a crack at a team game...I wonder who my partners will be?" would be a good start.
