Speed games should start 1 min after player joins
Speed games should start 1 min after player joins for freestyle games
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- Make things more fair for player 1 who all too often gets attacked by player 2 before he even realizes someone has joined the game. It's a little annoying to refresh the active games screen every second, and it's even more annoying that when you don't, you are attacked before you know what's going on, at times giving you a disadvantage(i.e. bringing you from 12 to 11 or 15 to 14 armies.)
- I don't see this as being something that would be very hard to code, but, I could be wrong.

Excellent idea.
send out the PMs, but don't actually start it for one minute.
It'll especially help in freestyle.

i support this idea

Sounds great!!

Good plan.
1 min sounds like the perfect time - 2 mins would be too long - instantly is too short.

This is only needed for freestyle. This would be annoying for sequential games

It says in the first post "for freestyle games"Skiman wrote:This is only needed for freestyle. This would be annoying for sequential games

Round 0 should be the same length as all other rounds...give everybody a chance to realize the game is on, view the board, plan their great grand overall strategy...1 minute is too short...5 minutes is the perfect length....but maybe give everybody an option to hit a button for "game on!" which will start the game immediately....short of the 5 minute mark.

Sorry, but if you need 5 minutes to think through your first round move, you are doing something wrong.bedub1 wrote:Round 0 should be the same length as all other rounds...give everybody a chance to realize the game is on, view the board, plan their great grand overall strategy...1 minute is too short...5 minutes is the perfect length....but maybe give everybody an option to hit a button for "game on!" which will start the game immediately....short of the 5 minute mark.
Re: Speed games should start 1 min after player joins
that's a great solution. Once everyone has hit the "start" button, the game begins. If anyone hasn't pressed it within 5 minutes, they get booted out, or maybe count it as a missed turn.bedub1 wrote:give everybody an option to hit a button for "game on!" which will start the game immediately....short of the 5 minute mark.

Not strictly true - technically everyone should have a chance to see the board before play commences - especially in a foggy game.Skiman wrote:This is only needed for freestyle. This would be annoying for sequential games

The entire 5 minutes hopefully won't be used for planning. Sometimes these games take a bit to fill. Sometimes nature calls and I have to excuse myself to the restroom...and if the game starts while I am gone...i could use the 5 minutes. But if I come back early, or if everybody is ready, then we just hit the start button and get going. The Neon Peon wrote:Sorry, but if you need 5 minutes to think through your first round move, you are doing something wrong.bedub1 wrote:Round 0 should be the same length as all other rounds...give everybody a chance to realize the game is on, view the board, plan their great grand overall strategy...1 minute is too short...5 minutes is the perfect length....but maybe give everybody an option to hit a button for "game on!" which will start the game immediately....short of the 5 minute mark.
No...no punishment. The game just starts without them having hit the "Start" button. if they miss 3 turns then they get booted...But failing to hit start on Round 0 isn't a missed turn as in round 0 nobody gets to take a turn.Timminz wrote:that's a great solution. Great idea! So must be implemented!

I don't play speed, nor do I play freestyle, but the idea seems really natural and reasonable... You have my vote!

READ MORE THAN THREE WORDS OF OTHER PEOPLES POSTS PLEASE!!!!! Seriously, how many times has it been said that admins don't look at polls, they look at feedback.sailorseal wrote:Good idea! Good idea I'd love to see it implemented though! Maybe 30 seconds?

Using the already existing thing to get a PM when the speed game starts is enough for me... Having to wait another min would just be annoying i belive.

Are you thinking of going with 1 minute, or a normal length round 0 with a "start now" button everybody can click on?

edit : mabey it should be two since by time you refresh the pm and read the you will have a good minute to watch the clock wind down and you will be ready to start.
