"Opt out of Viewing" feature [Rejected]

Post by Kotaro »

This is an excellent idea. Parts of this forum are a complete eye-sore, and many would like to have them completely eradicated from existence. A simple user interface installed within the control panel to choose which parts you would and would not like to view would improve the general user enjoyability of this site.

Unfortunately, this would require extended and unnecessary work to maintain a usergroup list and permission settings, time that could be better spent elsewhere. This can simply be done on your own, by closing your eyes or scrolling by really fast. :) THanks,

He said "may not happen", not "100% wouldn't happen".

it's a very possible and do-able feature.
..Or so I think. I'm going to go and try it on my own forums, see if I can code it correctly. Chances are I'll fail, but I'm not exactly computer savvy <_<;;

Andy, why is it that every solution on CC that is given, is to "ignore what's happening"? You can't enforce your own rules, so we have to go to extra lengths? That sounds reasonable. Or not.

As mentioned, the time it takes to create such a list, keep it up-to-date, and execute permissions would create minimal benefit from the amount of time taken to create said list. There is no automation with this unfortunately, and it would all be done by the hand of admins, which, as you know, would like to spend their time on more pressing issues.

And if I were to find a self-automated (people choose in their own control panels, what they do/do not want to see), then this idea would be acceptable?

It sounds like you are talking about a Modification for the forum. Perhaps it would be considered if one was found (Check out phpBB 3.0's Mod Request Forums, but each added Modification we add makes upgrading the forum take more time, so we like to limit Modifications to the essentials only).
