Okay, so I've been thinking about running a tourney on the site for quite some time. I've finally got an idea I want to run with, and it's time to give it a go...
2009 3-For-All Grand Championship!!! PlayersI will need 27 players for this tourney (and would like about 6 reserves). Each player will need to pick his home map, along with settings (freestyle/sequential, foggy/sunny, escalating/flat rate/no spoils, chained/adjacent/unlimited). (Note: I reserve the right to deny entries that will normally end up in extremely long matches, such as World 2.1 with no spoils.)
All players will be ranked by their points at the time I see their entry, but may ask to be re-ranked before the tourney starts if they feel their points have increased/decreased in their favor. Rankings will be staggered into one of three conferences, and one of three divisions within each of those conferences, as listed below.
Regular SeasonEach player will host every player in their conference in a 1v1v1 game, and will host the players in their division at least once, also in 1v1v1 games. This adds up to a 12-game regular season for each player.
I've been sending out games once a week, for a minimum 12-week commitment. I expect you to join within 48 hours of my pm and failure to do so may result in your being replaced by a reserve. Non-premium players can enter, but will be bumped in favor of premium players. (Sorry, but I'd rather not have to worry about game limits.)
PlayoffsAt the end of the regular season, only the division winners (determined by # of wins) in each conference will advance to the playoffs. Each conference will have a three-game, 1v1v1 series to anoint a champion. The top player in each conference will host 2 of 3 games against the other division winners in his conference, and will get to choose whether to play the middle game of the series at the map of the 2nd or the 3rd seed.
The champions of each conference will go on to the tournament finals, a three-game, 1v1v1 series in which each will host one game to determine the Grand Champion.
Tie-breakersIf two or three teams tie for a division and/or conference, the tie will be broken by (1) wins in division games, then (2) wins in games against other division winners and, finally, by (3) second place finishes. If all that is tied, I will create a 1v1v1 neutral-site game to determine the playoff berth, but I find that extremely unlikely.
In the conference finals, if each player wins one game, a fourth and deciding game will be hosted by the top player.
In the tournament finals, if each player wins one game, a final game will be hosted by the top player, as determined by the regular season tie-breaking system, including wins from the conference finals but not including tiebreaker games.

In the interests of fairness to the original entrants into the tourney, reserves will take on the home maps of drop-outs if those drop-outs have hosted a tourney game on their own map. As a counterbalance, I will give the reserves the choice of taking over a drop-outs' slot or waiting for another one.
Congrats to lach07, winner of the 2009 3-For-All Grand Championship!!!
