Re: 2009 Skilled Versatility [10 Teams Left]
Hi Blitz,
Enjoying the tourney, thanks.
Question for you......How is the draw determined? I've noticed some teams conveniently go up against an opposing team with an average rank of sergeant (for two rounds in succession!) and who have little or no quads playing experience, which obviously helps when it comes to amassing tourney points (which carry forward).
It seems there is no formula in place from the outset, making the draw subject to - dare I say it - manipulation.
Cheers

it is all random chariot, in my other tourney like this, we are facing the strongest or most highest points team right now currently

Blitzaholic wrote:(2009 TOURNAMENT of the YEAR
(Skilled Versatility on Complex Maps)
Welcome to CC's Greatest + Most Versatile Skilled Players on Complex MAPS, QUAD tournament hosted by Blitzaholic!
This will not start until sometime soon after Christmas, however pm's sent to 1st teams prior must fill the games, so on Christmas day or night other team or team 2 can join by 12-26-08 so we can start.
ALL PLAYERS ARE WELCOME as there will be 3 games @ at time, but MUST save @ least 3 spots open!!!!! This is for BRAGGING RIGHTS to BEST on CC, all that join are BRAVE, the last few teams that survive are HEROIC and truly skilled with Versatility, and the Winners of it will be LEGENDARY
Format:
The tournament will feature 20 Quads teams 80 players counting 2 reserve teams if needed; who will face off in 5 Rounds. Each round you will play 9 Games, there will be close to 200 Games played in combined tourney!!!!! Your team may play in a Total of 45 Games if you are skillful enough to get to last few rounds. Each team Win is Equal to 5 points. 1st round of games in the tournament will be on the Age of Merchants Map, the 2nd round will feature the Top 10 Teams out of the 18 with the most points (as 8 teams will be knocked OUT). If there is any tie (they will face each other in 1 game on WWII Ardennes map. The top 10 teams that are left will then all play 9 Games on Bamboo Jack, 3rd round will consist of 6 Teams and 9 Games played on Conquerman, 4th round will host 4 Teams with 9 Games played on Pearl Harbor, and finally the CHAMPIONSHIP will be the 2 Teams with the most points and will face off in 9 Games on Supermax: Prison. ALL points carry over and the team with the most points in the very end is crowned LEGENDS--Champions of the Tournament of the YEAR 2009.
MAPS will have the following settings: 9 total games each round
3 Games: Sequential, Escalating, Adjacent, Sunny
3 Games: Sequential, Flat rate, Chained, Sunny
3 Games: Sequential, No cards, Unlimited, Sunny.
Sign Ups:
Signing up is very simple, all you have to do is post with your name and the names of your partners with a Captain for your team, and a team name. * will symbolize teams Captains. ALL Foes must be taken off for this tourney.
Games:
When we have all the teams needed I will set up the games and then send them to one team first, and the second team after the first team has joined to reduce confusion. Games will be at random. You will have 24 hours for your team to join when the PM is sent out or your team will be penalized -1 point for each member NOT in, after 48 hours, each team player not joined -2 points, after 72 hours your team forfeits. If a team forfeits, I will look for a replacement team if needed to finish up any unfinished games to be fair. There will be 0.5 point BONUS for each game that any team defeats another team under 10 rounds, however, the Captain of your team will NEED to post in this thread with the game number to receive this bonus. I will be reviewing all games and constantly updating, but it will be your Captain's responsibility to post in thread if you want the half point. So all try to remind each other if you like, this is optional. After 72 hours when game is complete, if you have not posted the game win in rounds, you will not get the 0.5 bonus if you win under 10 rounds.

'Random' is when you roll a set of dice, or let a computer conjure-up a fixture list.Blitzaholic wrote:Chariot of Fire wrote:Hi Blitz,

Maybe in Round 3 we can be 'randomly' pitched against a team that has little or no experience on the map we're to play, or of playing quads.
So far.......
Soldiers of War - AoM experience = 8 games in total (2 of them never before). Avg rank sergeant
Sky Force - AoM = 65 games (one player a specialist on 44). Avg rank colonel
Small People Wear Black - Bamboo exp = 16 games tot. Avg rank sergeant 1st Class
Fab 4 - Bamboo = 136 games (with another specialist on 111 games, most of them won). Avg rank colonel
I guess you can see where I'm coming from. Kinda takes the gloss off the current achievements of the tourney leaders.

Re: 2009 Skilled Versatility [10 Teams Left]
Was it also random that the six teams closest to the leaders (i.e. positions 2nd thru to 7th) were all drawn against each other in Round 2?
That's quite remarkable!

exactly, i would luv to play the highest point score everytime, but the fact is in most tourney there is a lot around 1600 scores and a lot of them are good, they know how to play, my score has dropped from 4308 three months ago to 2813 because of tournaments. I am in over 150 games played, working too, in like 20 tourneys and organizing another 6 right now myself, very overwhelmed and swamped, so i do the best i can, have little to no time to do anything else and check what scores and ranks are and who has experience with who. I myself just started teaming with neph, osu, dbz in quads just in last couple months, we never have done this before, but we chat in game chat at times, like i am sure most do.
makes it hard cause we rarely on at the same time and map changes after ideas, so we just have to all do what we think is best.

lol, you are basing this on score fire, lmaoff, scores are easily manipulated at times, and some with lower scores are dam goodChariot of Fire wrote:Was it also random that the six teams closest to the leaders (i.e. positions 2nd thru to 7th) were all drawn against each other in Round 2?

if you really want to dissect this, i looked up fab4 and they have never quaded together EVER except now for this tourney and thats who you are playing, you are playing a quad team who has never quaded together EVER. favors you as you play with those teammates all the time, but i didnt know this.
also I looked up sky force and there 4 players that you faced in the first round, and guess what? they never quaded together either, 1st time them 4 teamed against you 4 who you always team with, looks a little unfair to me
another example is imperial britain in this tourney, they all high high scores, probably the highest in whole tourney here and they lost all 9 games, so you have no leg to stand on, so quit your complaining, my guess is the only reason you are now is because you may be losing some, well, get over it and try to have fun.

Re: 2009 Skilled Versatility [10 Teams Left]
Blitz,
Thanks for your PMs - I'll reply under separate cover to those. If, however, you wish to judge my rationale in a public forum as being based on 'losing some' then you're sorely mistaken and I'd like to set the record straight.
'Quads experience' as a team is probably the least mitigating factor in determining the likely success rate or difficulty of an opponent. Having people in the team who have played a certain map 111 times is, so don't say Fab 4 'as a quad' should be an easy opponent because they've not played together - that's just plain nonsense.
What rankles me though is that it's become evident that the draw has been made and there is seemingly bias. Don't you think it's incredibly convenient that the team equal 1st with the co-leaders are now having to face the team one place below them. And the 4th with 7th, the 5th with 6th? Just how does the 'random' draw work exactly?
Personally I relish the spirit of competition, so I don't care against whom I'm pitted. The tougher the better (which is why I can't abide farmers). I don't think I'll start a thread listing all my achievements though, because at the end of the day it was the game- the moment - that mattered. I doubt others would really care to hear another's trumpet being blown.
So....tourney organiser and member of the leading team. What's the likelihood of you being drawn against the 2nd placed team in Round 3? It's just my curious nature that begs the question, that's all.
It may be wise in future to have a set format in place, rather than personally participate in something that is 'randomly' drawn, as current events suggest 'there's something wrong in the State of Denmark' (apologies WS).
p.s. Thanks for quoting me btw. I am enjoying the tourney, the way I enjoy every game. You're an exceptional organiser. Thank you.

i dont know how to do it any other random way and usually do it randomly drawn, but , yes, ty for the suggestion.
most that know me or know of me, know I am computer dumb, lol, so, i do my best with what i can.
glad you and all are enjoying the tourney and thank you for the warm compliments of saying i am an exceptional tourney organizer, thanks a lot, i dont know about all that, lol, still try to learn and improve and i will take your suggestions up for consideration for sure, no doubt, thanks again chariot for your feedback, i am open. in fact, maybe you could just randomize and tell me who is going to play who next round, thats fine with me, or teach me how to do it.
respects, blitzer

Re: 2009 Players of the YEAR TOURNAMENT!!!
Night Strike wrote:Nice job creating an in-depth tournament. Are you going to send the PM to all players or just the captains? If it's just the captains, you can't expect them to read the PM and get all their players into the games within 24 hours. I'd up it to 48 hours regardless.
thank you night strike
and yes, i have been sending pm's to all the players
not just the captains
its just way more time consuming then i imagined

Re: 2009 Skilled Versatility [10 Teams Left]
ok, you all
from now
well, whoever advances:
from now on or here on out, i will just be making 3 games at a time
i will send out 3 out to all players
with the password
just wont have much time to do more than that for awhile
i hope that is ok with all? i mean 3 games at once is still pretty good
then when those 3 games are finished, i will send out another 3
and so on and so forth and the last 3 will go out after that for 9 total.
basically 3 at a time, hope all understand
thx
