Battle of Stallingrad
Was thinking of a Battle of Stallingrad map.
Battling through the remains of ruined factory building and bombed out apartment complexes.
Perhaps snipers that could make one way attacks, artillery that could bombard, and maybe Stukah dive bombers that could bombard and only be assaulted from anti-aircraft batteries or from other planes, perhaps even tanks that could do ranged assaults (similar to the cavalry from the Waterloo map)

I would pay for the finest prostitute in australia to take care of you every day for a month if it meant you'd do a stalingrad map.cairnswk wrote:Hey, Paul, i had targeted this battle to do at some stage...but am out of time at present.

You had better start saving. I heard from the underworld regions of Kings Cross that she charges $3000/night....
and i've just found about 10 maps....
i have 3 pictorial atlases celebrating 20th Century warfare in which Stalingrad features heavily....
enough maps to complete a wonderful triptych....
and i wish i could show you this map on PP190/191 of the Historical Atlas of World War II...it is so beautiful...3D and snow and ice....with planes and buildings...and armies all over the place
and i have Enemy At The Gates DVD.
Mmmmmm. now is it worth $3000/night

...and don't forget sewer fighting and Mamayev Hill with landmines.
...and Enemy at the Gates was terrible ... especially compared to the book. Go with the euro movie "Stalingrad" instead ... much better and much more in depth.

Re: Battle of Stallingrad
cairns, you should read Stalingrad by Anthony Beevor if you're gonna do this map. Great, great book. Very in-depth.

Re: Battle of Stallingrad
You could almost do a series with this one. Streets of Stalingrad and then the Stalingrad Underground.
This would need to be a supermap much like the Iron Curtain (R.I.P.) map that was never finished.
The Beevor book is good also, but I liked the first hand accounts and letters from the front in the book Enemy at the Gates.

Re: Battle of Stallingrad
You wouldn't happen to have the author's name or IDBN (or is it ISDN? I can never keep those two straight) number, would you? That sounds like the sort of bitchin' coffee-table book I could get remaindered off amazon.cairnswk wrote:and i wish i could show you this map on PP190/191 of the Historical Atlas of World War II...it is so beautiful...3D and snow and ice....with planes and buildings...and armies all over the place
I just finished reading the Beevor book, which is what really put the proverbial bee in my bonnet in the first place. Absolutely riveting stuff. I'll have to pick up the enemy at the gates book (assuming I can find one without Jude Law's mug plastered all over it, I've always loathed movie-tie-in book covers). And while the movie had its narrative flaws, it was pretty good with atmosphere and setting.
Hmmm, $3000/night for the finest prostitute in Australia? It's a good thing you don't live in New York or LA, that would be considered the discount rate.cairnswk wrote:Mmmmmm. now is it worth $3000/nightfor a whole month.

Thank you cairnswk, when I made this suggestion I was hoping you would be the one to do something with. I love your work. The Waterloo map hurt my brain at first but now it is among my favorites..cairnswk wrote:Hey, Paul, i had targeted this battle to do at some stage...but am out of time at present.neanderpaul14 wrote:Was thinking of a Battle of Stallingrad map.

Re: Battle of Stallingrad
I am going to start working on this map, although it will be slower in production than other maps i have done as i am now doing Uni.A Draft will not be considered for promotion to the Main Foundry without the support of CC users. If a map is not considered by the Foundry community to offer something original and/or interesting in terms of gameplay, graphics, and theme, its production will not be encouraged.
But, in terms of the above quote from the new Drafting rule, please advise what you consider should be offered as something original and /or of interest for this map.
My outline thus far for the map is that it will be standard game play with bombardments and air attacks; impassables, and 3-D buildings & trees where i can fit these on the map.
What else do you want?
