drop speed games when connection drops
Any speed games you are in but have not started should be dropped if you sign off the web.
I have started speed games before and either forgot I started them (because no one was joining) or my connection has failed, (before another player joined the game), then a player joins the game when I am not on line and gets an easy win and leaves me a deadbeat rating.

Speed games are automatically dropped after 15 minutes of inactivity on the site, or if you press the logout button

In that case you would have to wait for the 15 minutes but that might be too long, maybe in that case change your suggestion to be a 5 minute drop...spaceghst44 wrote:how can you press the log out button if you get disconnected?blakebowling wrote:Speed games are automatically dropped after 15 minutes of inactivity on the site, or if you press the logout button

It was just changed from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. Lets try reading the forums before we press that shiny post button next time.sailorseal wrote:In that case you would have to wait for the 15 minutes but that might be too long, maybe in that case change your suggestion to be a 5 minute drop...spaceghst44 wrote:how can you press the log out button if you get disconnected?blakebowling wrote:Speed games are automatically dropped after 15 minutes of inactivity on the site, or if you press the logout button

the op knows full well that games get dropped after 15 minutes but is requesting that games get dropped as soon as the player goes offline so that people dont deadbeat as much

It is a very simple solution. when you are no longer connected to the server, the speed games that are not active should drop.

I hate connection fails in speed game, I had about 50 of them after I was logged in this AM and playing 4 speed games and missed several key turns and the game loses your armies if you started your turn then times out even with no connections. totally sucks and it wasn't my end as I monitored inbound outbound traffic on a number of other web sties with no problem -- no more speed games for me, not worth it, almost got kicked out in one game as I almost couldnt' take 3 turns in a row, just srever timeouts and connection fails to CC, meanwhile I am working on other websites no problem

I've never experienced a disconnection of over 5 minutes. That's pretty serious.

Re: drop speed games when connection drops
I am not 100% certain, but I think the server only pings users every 5 min. I do not think the server knows the difference between someone popping off and on within a five minute span and someone who has a page open and is reading for more than 5 min. The coding of the site might make this suggestion impossible, but you never know.

Re: drop speed games when connection drops
From what I've seen, the server doesn't ping users, it knows a user is active when their session key is used to get a page (when you visit any page on the site) just having the site open doesn't create any activity with the server at all. That's why it was set to 15 minute auto drop (it was 5 but lack changed it).lancehoch wrote:I am not 100% certain, but I think the server only pings users every 5 min. Now, lack could add a constantly refreshing connection (like in live chat, the ajax gets the new messages every 2 seeconds) that would make it if any page on CC was open, speed games wouldn't drop. Now this would help for inactivity, but some people (like myself) don't turn their computers off, or close their browsers. Therefore, I wouldn't ever be auto dropped from a speed game.
I think the current method is the best (not to mention easiest way to code).
If I confused you with my post, feel free to ask questions. I'll explain the best I can.

Re: drop speed games when connection drops
another frustrating day on CC, connections seemed fine so I signed up into 4 speed games yesterday, some nice games progressing, then I can't keep a connection open to even play a button, start missing turns or even worse entering turns then losing my armies and even cashed cards before they are deployed because I can't even make one simple move, let alone take a whole turn in 5 minutes, cost me great positions in two games and nearly get taken out in another in easy position to win, just because I can't even deploy and attack with dominating numbers in end gameode to veeck wrote:I hate connection fails in speed game, I had about 50 of them after I was logged in this AM and playing 4 speed games and missed several key turns and the game loses your armies if you started your turn then times out even with no connections. totally sucks and it wasn't my end as I monitored inbound outbound traffic on a number of other web sties with no problem -- no more speed games for me, not worth it, almost got kicked out in one game as I almost couldnt' take 3 turns in a row, just srever timeouts and connection fails to CC, meanwhile I am working on other websites no problem
all my workstations and computers on our router getting great speed inbound/outbound to all other web sites, just connection timeouts left and right to CC, even this morning, when I am timed out in about 50% of any attempted moves in regular duration CC games. My provider is AT&T/yahoo DSL in Mt View, CA (SF Peninsula), so I was wondering if others see these types of problems with CC connections only. I know Comcast got caught spoofing traffic to highest bandwidth web sites, but it is not like CC is anywhere near the bandwidth of sites where large volumes of video data are being sucked around (orders of magnitude higher traffic than most sites on those babies).
