You seem to contradict yourself. You say that banned members do not recieve PM's, you say that they can use email. Then you say that PM's should be "disconnected", and you say they should be able to use e-mail.
Can you clearly state what this suggestion is for??
Blake, he is saying that a banned player can receive PMs, but is unable to open and/or read the PMs. I guess you are looking to have an automatic response message to the effect of "This player is currently forum banned and cannot receive PMs"?
Totally agree and support this idea! There is no need for banned people to recieve PMs they can't read... tantalizing! But yea, its just plain stupid at the moment....
I am differentiating between forum banned and totally banned members. I think forum banned members should be able to open and send PM's, and totally banned members should have their inbox disabled so they don't get tantalized with PM's they can't open.
It also seems like if forum banned members were for whatever reason involved in a tournament it may improve the site by not holding up tournaments as a result of players being unable to communicate with their tournament director. Im not sure how real of a problem this is, but it seems like it could be something that could be potentially improved upon if it was.
What about those people who receive a forum vacation for severe PM abuse? Keep in mind that there can't be a separate setting for just them (too much time to code or means an admin has to handle it and not a mod).

if it's a severe pm abuse, make it a total ban then.

Then they can just disable that person's inbox so that they can't recieve messages either, or just give the person a permaban.
Forum-banned members can open and use their email inbox.
Specifics:
Find a way to disconnect PM's for banned members
Find a way to make it so that forum-banned members can open and use their email inbox
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Nobody who is banned wants to be teased by all the PM messages they can't open
There is nothing about a forum-ban that says you shouldn't be able to use PM's
I don't really believe the coding time it would take for this would have any real benefit for the site. Why should lack spend time coding something that will result in banned members not being 'teased'. Do they deserve coding time so that they don't get teased? Isn't it there own fault they are in that position?
On this point:
[*]There is nothing about a forum-ban that says you shouldn't be able to use PM's
PM are in actual fact part of the php forum software. So if you are forum banned, I am assuming that means you are not allowed to use any part of forum software, including PM's.

Fair enough. I still think the consequence we should avoid is having a number beside the Inbox and not being able to open it. Maybe instead of recieving a ban, members should have their points deducted by 50% or something like that. Just kidding.

not really... that is exactly the issue he wants resolved... reading comprehension goes a very long way on the forums... the black jesus supports literacy, visit a bookmobile today...-0

you may be banned from the forums, but that does not mean you are banned from games. if you are banned and cannot read your pm's. things like passwords or notifications for clan wars/tournaments are unable to be read. those have absolutely nothing to do with the forums and affect more than one member when those PM's can not be acted upon... the black jesus has spoken...-0
