That works too and is probably easier to implement! But with the option to change the turn time limit from 5 minutes to a lesser amount, you could wait even less time for deadbeats to timeout.Timminz wrote:Variations on this idea have been suggested numerous times already, and shot down each time.
personally, I was a fan of one suggestion that involved having a button to add time to a turn, when needed. People could use it when they need more time, but if you're not there to click the button, your turn ends in 5 minutes still.

Re: SPEED GAMES TIME OPTIONS
Yes i read that, but you all ready get extra time when you eliminate opponent. 5 minute is very long time for play, just take 8 player games, you need to waith max 35 minute to play your turn. I play many speed games, and player all ready have skills to waith last 10-5 second to play hes turns(these is in freestyle games), so i dont thing that these will be bad, because you have 5 option to use-if you take 1 minute, then these mean that you want to try more chalenge,or you can take other 4 option. I belive that people will try all options.by egri_bikaver » Fri Dec 26, 2008 11:30 pm
That's silly...
How can you play a turn in one minute (without my seconds to added after action suggestion )?
Think about it. Deploy, attack, cash-in, cash-in again if you conquer a player who has cards, reinforce. No way.
But it is possible if my options are implemented... see this post:

It's not going to happen. It has been said very specifically, by people with real clout.egri_bikaver wrote:with the option to change the turn time limit from 5 minutes to a lesser amount, you could wait even less time for deadbeats to timeout.
Re: (poll)SPEED GAMES TIME OPTIONS
for some reason it hasn't been added to the "official list", but it has been suggested numerous times. Maybe not exactly the same, but close enough. It has also been stated... wait. here it is...

It's a shame... I just dont see how a map like Prison Riot can be done in a Speed game, and its one of my favorites.

It's a good idea; but maybe 1 minute is too short (unless you have lots of add-ons).

well i belive that these all ready working for speed games, right?bob. clicky-maps, map rank. etc.
Re: Time in Speed Games
Take the time study your situation while the other player or players are taking there turn. I do like the idea of possibly having speed games on larger maps that allow more than 5 minutes per person. Perhaps this could be available for a month or 2 as a test to see how people like it & then the powers that be can decide to keep it or toss the idea. Thats all I have to add in response to your suggestion. GL!

as has been said before, by AndyDufrense, "5 minutes will be the only speed time" (or something to that effect)

Re: Time in Speed Games
the 5 minutes is to time a player out in case they borg [they're inactive] right?
so if the problem is not being able ot take a turn within 5 minutes because of possibilities of the map being too big, which is easily understandable, so why not just add an extra 5 minutes when the player has started their go? they'll still be active and chances are, the max players will be waiting for another player will be 9-9.5 minutes, otherwise normal responsive players will do it within 6 minutes. It will add that extra bit of time.
Or another solution, if a player thinks they dont have enough time, and they really need an extra 5 minutes or whatever, for this one time, how about a get out of jail free card? so you're able to add 5 minutes or however long on for one time only?

Re: Time in Speed Games
The thing is... most lower ranks want there to be more time.
Many high ranks who play speed games want the time to be 2 or even one minute instead of 5, since we don't do anything for about 4:50 of the 5:00 anyways.
So to make one group happy, you do the opposite of what the other group wants.

Re: Time in Speed Games
its not going to happen. let me give you an example though. lets say we are playing a 1v1. you start winning and im now in a position where i really cant help but lose. i can get really low and dirty and take my turns as slow as possible, maybe youll have to leave, maybe youll get bored, whatever. if you leave then i can still win. with 5 min turns this is harder since you really have a minimum of 20 turns per hours (10 for each player) but if you up this to say 10 minutes it suddenly becomes VERY possible. at 10 mins you have a mimimum of 6 turns (3 each). now i am able to use just three turns, do my best to stay alive, and burn an entire hour of your life away.
5 mins is a good arbitrary number, games arent too fast and arent too slow.
but if you really want some help, i suggest getting the clickable map scirpt, it will save you LOADS of time when youre taking turns

Re: Time in Speed Games
this idea is the opposite of what i thought it would be...
i read the title and thought it would be something like "make speed game rounds 2 minutes" which is what i think they should be.
definitely dont make them longer! who needs 5 minutes to think about a move anyway???
i dont have bob but still never need to think about a move for longer than like a minute

Re: Time in Speed Games
But dont you see with a configurable timer, everyone gets exactly what they want!
Dont want to play a 7 min round? DONT! You can only join or create 2 min rounds!

Re: Time in Speed Games
The only sensible solution I have seen is to decrease the time per round, but add time to the clock for every action.
If turns were two minutes long then all the waiting and stalling that happens in freestyle games would not be so bad. And if you had 1 second to the clock for every attack that is made you would still have adequate time to finish long complicated turns.
This system would be self adjusting because on small maps you wouldn't need a lot of time and therefore you wouldn't receive it. On very large maps, where the current time is often too short, you would have plenty of time by receiving bonuses for every action.
I understand why they don't want a whole bunch of time options (1, 2, 5, 10 minutes). But why not add in the best self adjusting timer possible to please all camps?
