IP's as a means of busting multi's

Postby Jamie on Sun Jan 07, 2007 2:46 am

I find the technique of using an IP address to identify multi's as very flawed. What if a family is sharing one computer, or you have friends that come over and use your PC alot. Kayla is my wife, and also a premium member. lackattack has already identified us as different people, but I'm sure you show us as having the same IP address. Also, it is possible to have more than one PC hooked up to the same IP address. I think it is ok to use the method, but not as the only, or primary method. If someone was really determined they could have multiple accounts, and use them from different IP's. If you really want to keep multis off the site, have people give their social security number, or their countries equivalent to open an account. If someone makes up a number, it would be noticed instantly if CC's servors are hooked to a social security database.

Just a warning, The Saint and I play on the same proxy while we are at school, but I'm sure you can Identify us as different people when we go home and use our school computer.

the sadest part

Its sad that so many people on this site accuse people of cheating (because they lose or someone didnt play like they would) that they feel like they have to even offer the SS# option just to clear a name.

Its sadder that the accusations find so guilty people though.
