By the way, what's this Watchmen movie about? It looks like it's really really weird.

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
I really hope they do a good job on Watchmen.
One of the best comics in the history of the medium.
However, the movies of V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen don't suggest good expectations.

What was so bad about V for Vendetta that you put it with League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

Also seeing the preview of Watchmen. It looks like there maybe just too much going on for the average viewer to understand.

Well, they're all based on comics by the same guy. The first two missed the point pretty completely. i hope the third one won't.strike wolf wrote:What was so bad about V for Vendetta that you put it with League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

What was the point that they failed to represent than?

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
Here's a list of my top ten favorite films. Because you need to know these things
1 Monty Python and the Holy Grail
2 The Godfather (Part 1 & 2)
3 Apocalypse Now
4 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
5 Doctor Zhivago
6 Repo Man
7 Blade Runner
8 To Kill a Mockingbird
9 Do the Right Thing
10 Drugstore Cowboy
For some directors I love every film they've done. So rather than pick just one for the list or have them dominate the list I decided to list them separately - Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Errol Morris, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, and Jim Jarmusch

Monty Python is a great movie. I will say the same about the Godfather (especially pt. 1). Have not gotten around to seeing Apocalypse Now though I imagine I will thoroughly enjoy it. Sorry, did not like The Good The Bad And The Ugly. No comment on #5. Haven't seen Repo Man. Though I've never really understood why, I have always loved Blade Runner. To Kill A Mocking Bird was a great movie and an even better book. And no comment on the last two. I'll definitely have to work on my top 10 list.

(1) The plotstrike wolf wrote:jonesthecurl wrote:Well, they're all based on comics by the same guy. The first two missed the point pretty completely. i hope the third one won't.strike wolf wrote:What was so bad about V for Vendetta that you put it with League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

(2) The setting
(3) The characters
(4) the huge and subtle depth of, well, just everything that was going on. In the comic of League, for example, every named character, no matter how briefly they appeared, was a real or fictitious character of the era. Access to a good Who's who gave a whole extra dimension to it all. In the film version, one of the major characters was replaced with Tom Sawyer in cse Americans weren't familiar with all of em.

Considering all the back-stage problems, I actually quite like how L.E.G came out.

Really the movie sucked. It's like it tried to have a good plot and failed miserably.Minister Masket wrote:Considering all the back-stage problems, I actually quite like how L.E.G came out.

It's now time for strike's 2008 person of the year.
This year's person is Barack Obama. An obvious choice. I couldn't go anywhere this year without hearing about him or seeing his face imprinted on someone's shirt.

I could but I didn't want to repeat everything that's been repeatedly forced into your brain over the past year.

Same thing: took a fine comic and threw it away, they only really wanted the Guy Fawkes mask.strike wolf wrote:I get League. but what about Vendetta.
Alan Moore refused to have his name on the credits in the end.
I never saw "From Hell" - how did that one do for filming a Moore story?

Don't know.
Time for strike's CCer of the year.
This year's CCer is dancing mustard. He really is a rolemodel for those trying to get forum banned everywhere. He managed to break the rules (occasionally ones that are loosely defined) and make the public love him for it. This one's for you DM.

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
I've just been drinking a beer called "Bad Monkey". I don't know if there were any bananas in it.
In other news, I took the curlette to see Bedtime Stories tonight. I wasn't expecting very much, but I actuallly enjoyed it a lot. If you don't have kids to take, wait till it's on TV, but do catch it when it is. If you DO have kids, they will love it.

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
First of all, Yes. Second of all, the point of this thread is to become the longest not that it is actually the longest. We here strive to acheive that goal not just try to relish that this thread had been the longest. third, that word is forbidden.
