This has been bothering me lately. It sounds too unnatural to say "assault a region" because "assault" is a rather uncommonly used word. I think it would be much easier and more natural to talk of "invading a region."
Although I generally do not like polls in this forum, I set one up. Seems like the only way to decide.
One does not assault an inanimate object usually. However, one will usually invade a country, rather than assault a country. I can say I hear more about the U.S. invading Iraq than both assaulting (never heard that once) or attacking it (rarely and by high school students)
This is a very easy fix since it is basically copy and paste, or just replace all "assault" with "invade" in the code.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Our language will sound like something that was not pulled out of a thesaurus after being threatened with legal action.
I would say no due to "assault" being a correct description of what is happening. And even though "invade" might (usually) be the preferred result it is not a certain outcome of the "assault".

An invasion is not necessarily successful, and it is a more accurate description of what happens when you let your armies attack a region. Assault sounds as if a small group of people attacks something, while invade sounds like the large scale wars we simulate by rolling the "intensity cubes".

Hm... yes. Would you quench a map with boxes and names of artists in them?
MrBenn raises a good point... and its not just classic art... 8-thoughts assault sounds better then invade, US senate, supermax, ext. Basically anything that is not geographical based sounds better as assault... though invade does sound better for those, on a whole... id have to stick to assault, sorry
Well, I had another idea that fits in with the site: instead of assault, or invade, why not "Conquer" ? Fits in perfectly with the site's name, although still has that problem of invade.
P.S. I think there are a ton more geographically based maps then ones like 8 thoughts, which works... "invaded mind from reason" sounds perfectly fine for that. Same with assault there. Although I think that for the majority of the geographically based maps, "invade" is better.

Because "conquer" is already used in game logs to indicate a successful assault:
cicero assaulted Kenya from Somalia and conquered it from The Neon Preon"
Nonetheless I do think "assault" is a bit clunky, but "invade" doesn't really work either since it has the connotation of successful completion that conquer has ... Hmm, something with a similar meaning to "attack" or "assault" is needed ...
When the first Atom bomb test was complete a colleague of Oppenheimer said: "What an Awesome and Foul display of Power." a moment later he added, "Now we are all sons of bitches"
I like "Assualt" because it sounds better, not very scientific but it's good enough for me. Also everyone is used to it now, so another change is not necessary unless the Hasbro legal department decide to come after CC again.
