An update on the feudal war top 10.

I have searched through the 20 or 30 players that I know are good on feudal, including all on Daydream's current list. These are the top 10 by maprank from those I have searched. No doubt I have missed some players.

My feeling though is that map rank is not the best indicator of skill on a particular map. Compare for example myself (fatharry) with torter_of_worlds. He has a better win percentage than I do (82% vs 75%). He has also played stronger opposition than I have (avg opponents' rank 2103 vs 1803).

So why do I have a better map rank than he does? For two reasons. 1) I have played more games and thus had more opportunity to collect points. 2) My overall rank is lower than his, so I gain more points for beating the same opponent and lose fewer points for losing to the same opponent.

I therefore include here another statistic which I call "performance" and which I believe is a better measure of map skill. It is calculated as: performance = average opponents rank X sqrt (w/(1-w)) where w is the winning percentage. The motivation for this formula can be seen in my thread http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=59621. The performance can be viewed as what one's rank would be if one played only this map and no other.

Of course another flaw with both systems is they are based on one's entire playing history. Ideally we would want a measure that is based on recent performance e.g. last 30 games. Unfortunately the stats are not easy to collect until someone writes an appropriate gm script.

Heya Harry-- I'm just filling in for Daydream, but from what I see, the thread isn't an actual 'Map Rank'. It's just total amount of points won on a particular map. Maybe you're referring about the relative rank? Perhaps the title of the thread is misleading and should be changed- your thoughts Blitz?
