Add "team view" allowing territories to be defined by team

Concise description:
  • There are currently two "views" of all maps: normal view, and color-blind view (b3 for 3 blues, etc.) that you can toggle between in all games (using add/remove colour codes)
  • Add another "view" to team games: "team view" (and color-blind team view)
  • In team view, you would see territory ownership (the colored #s juxtaposed over the game board) as defined not by which player owns each location, but by which team owns that location
Specifics:
  • Added as a dynamic toggle on the side
  • Would use data that allows reinforcement/deployment to teammate's locations
  • Each team is assigned its own color
    • In two-team/3 team situations grayscale could be used
    • The color could also be the color of the first player listed on the side within that team
  • Example:
    • If the team of blue, red, and yellow held locations A, B, and C each with 3 and the team of purple, green, and orange hold D, E, and F each with 4
    • ...then the first team would be assigned a color (eg red) and the second team would be assigned a color (eg purple).
    • In team view, A, B, and C would be designated with a red 3 (or a red "r3"), and D, E, and F would be designated with a purple 4.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Gameplay: the board would be much easier to read when determining team strategy
  • Would generally improve team dynamics and encourage players to share troops, since they visually see they have some ownership of teammates' territories
Perhaps something like this already exists/has been suggested, but it seems like it would be easy enough to implement (no new images/backend code (possibly), just front-end change), and it would help me tremendously.

"teams" don't get bonuses however. Only individual ownership of countries gain bonuses. This would cause significant amounts of confusion. Unless your colorblind, I'm not sure why the current system doesn't work just fine.

BOB Kind of does that for you anyway. If you use BOB, and hover over the team number, you'll see all of the territs that that team owns (assuming Fog is off)

yeah, agree... this is something that over time, as you play more team games, you just "get". at first, it can be confusing, but it all sorts itself out. kind of like learning how to attack in order, when to drop on each other, etc... all tactics you learn to recognize over the course of playing more and more games. i just don't think it is necessary. the maps can get pretty clunky when you are running 3 or 4 player team games, and i just can't imagine what that might even look like in a quad team game, let aloen a dubs game.-0

Fabled -- I am largely colorblind, but that's beside the point.

It would be a toggle option: so nothing would change unless you went out of your way to click "team view," which would serve to show you where your team's territories were (by *replacing* the original numbers with the appropriate number colored for each team). It would in no way increase clutter, and would serve as nothing but a graphical aid for finding your teammates' territories.

As for BOB -- not all of us use Firefox...and please don't take this as an opportunity to encourage me to use Firefox, seriously.

Owenshooter, more than likely, that's true. Some of us still have trouble finding our own territories, though... :)

BOB does all this, since you can see your teams territories (uh regions) through the FoW.
yeah, agree... this is something that over time, as you play more team games, you just "get". at first, it can be confusing, but it all sorts itself out. kind of like learning how to attack in order, when to drop on each other, etc... all tactics you learn to recognize over the course of playing more and more games. i just don't think it is necessary.
Yeah agreed, the whole point of playing team games is to determine strategy on a full scale level while getting you and your teammates to work together. This would make team games more like awkward 1v1 games. It takes a lot of the skill and strategy out.

If I were you, I would see if a scripter wouldn't assist you in creating a firefox plugin, because it seems better suited for that.

I'm just saying, sounds better suited as a Google Chrome script than anything else ;)

While true, I think its besides the point.

With all these colors, it is plain hard to tell some apart. I end up using colorblind, but frankly would much prefer having each team be shades of the same color or some such variation.

Not to mention, if you play a lot of games with different numbers of players, it is easy enough to forget that "oh yeah, yellow is on MY team in this game ... lol". A unified color would just make it easier. And, I don't think its too difficult technically. Plus, since it would be an option ... only those of us who want to use it will.
