Your number one ranked player

Kudos and well done for some whopping points.
Seems to be the nature of many of the "elite" players. They look for newbs starting team games, wait for the third or fourth to join and then pile in. Maybe they should start an elite farming clan. Wait.... that would make folks mad and think of the public outcry.

Re: Your number one ranked player
The clan you for people who farm is called "The Farmers Guild". The players that played in that game are not a part of it. They should be though that is the same stuff the farmers do to get points.

More support for my view that nearly everyone farms to a degree. Some are just still in denialdfaarc wrote:The clan you for people who farm is called "The Farmers Guild". I agree with you; it would be hypocritical to complain about it if one has ever done something similar themselves.Army of Achilles wrote: More support for my view that nearly everyone farms to a degree. Some are just still in denial

Re: Your number one ranked player
Those aren't the elite players; they just have the most points. Don't get those two things confused. Points aren't directly correlated to skill. I think most people already know that farmers are a joke. Try to get into games with them though, because they aren't very good and they pay out a lot.Iron Butterfly wrote:Seems to be the nature of many of the "elite" players.

Re: Your number one ranked player
Thank you Bald Adonis for reminding me.Your absolutely correct. I just happened to check on the rank boards and decided to see what the number one player does to get there. Its pretty sad really. The win % is what made me check.
Im starting to believe the true test of a good player is one who plays alone against evenly ranked players. There are many ways to farm points but to take a game knowing all you will make 5 points off of someone new is crap form.

Re: Your number one ranked player
sjnap is an amazing player who can outplay almost everyone in skill.
Anyone who can play and win:
http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=2317830
deserves to be conqueror and the fact that he is farming does not detract from his being one of the best players on this site. He is currently farming just to beat scotts high score, and I think it is more honorable to farm the way sjnap is, than to gain 3700 points by someones throwing game.

Re: Your number one ranked player
I think we have two different subjects going on here. I am not calling out his playing skills. I am however calling out the crappy habbit of joining games simply to farm noobs.
Explain to me why someone of that caliber needs to farm a noob for 5 friggin points??
Unless of course he knows he cant hold it without resorting to such tactics.
The law of diminishing returns ect ect

Re: Your number one ranked player
because it isnt worth it to play regular players. If I lose to a general I will still lose about 30 points. It isnt worth the riskIron Butterfly wrote:I think we have two different subjects going on here. I am not calling out his playing skills. Simple answer here, just don't play freestyle, you'll get burned most everytime if you host a freestyle game. There are many players that co-ordinate a game through MSN or Skype or whatever . . . . and ya the game will be over before you even start to play. That doesn't make them bad people, you chose to play those settings.

I enjoy playing interesting games with the hope of gaining some points. There is somthing sad playing simply for the points.maxatstuy wrote:because it isnt worth it to play regular players. "Its not worth the RISK"
Re: Your number one ranked player
now I will lose about 25ish, but if sjnap were to lose to someone who has a score of 3500, he would lose close to 30.FabledIntegral wrote:You wouldn't lose 30 points to a general.maxatstuy wrote:because it isnt worth it to play regular players. after looking over jiminski's games he is one of limited # of people that can make that statement

Someone has to mention Game 3461529, Game 3122506, and Game 2928081 if you are going to look at jiminski's gamesArmy of Achilles wrote:jiminski wrote:that's not true.. no irony intended!Army of Achilles wrote:More support for my view that nearly everyone farms to a degree. There are many top players with team games open. Think they are soo weak and easy to beat, then run a team at them. I know for a fact loes has many games open and waiting for people to join. Anybody can try their skills and see if they can win. Triples, quads, etc.
For example... Me and loes put up 5 doubles games. Not too long after all were full with good players. Frop and First H in 3 of them 2 majors in another one and MikeStudios and Superrag in the last one. Was some fun games.

Re: Your number one ranked player
If people want to get cheap points; fine!
If they wish to admit what they are doing rather than deny or blame it on something else; ok, the Palmers Guild do that in fairness*
But it should be remembered that the practice does diminish the accuracy of the top of the scoreboard.
For the uninitiated: the scoreboard has the peculiar contradiction of not exclusively being populated by the very best players. (This makes any judgement upon that purely subjective and prone to the accusation of 'sour grapes!')
I do not have a problem with that either but it does seem a little silly to pretend that farming, to falsely accelerate point tally, still allows for points to measure skill accurately.
Why is that important? well it's not is it! Live and let live i say!
But It can appear a tad rude to rub this odd practice in our face and then still retain the façade that the scoreboard is a credible meritocracy.
heh as i say, this really isn't all that important but i do not much like misappropriation of kudos!
NB greatest post ever jim, you summed it all up, kudos to you! Mod you can lock the thread now as nothing else could possibly be added to this debate! Jim should be made conqueror on the back of this post alone! And honorary chairman of the Guild of Palmers! Hip hip!
*I am not sure i approve of their brashness. The practice should be ascribed a dab of stigma. Without that there is no levelling of subjection; this we need to correct deformation of the levers of judgement.

the only reason sjnap won was because SkyT came out short on eliminating likemee. i remember warsteiner writing to me multiple times about how sjnaps time was slowly running out, and that if sj missed, it would be his game.
