Crazy Maps And Dice?

So far I haven't seen a mod give any explanation other than "potential" copyright issues. Can we get some details on this? Did Hasbro actually say anything, or is this a preventive measure? If Hasbro complained, how so? C&D? Actual lawsuit? Did they "suggest" that you guys should keep quiet about their involvement? Have there been any actual agreements made? How much time do we have left until they shut down the site?

You're gonna have to spill all this stuff eventually; rumors will fly until you do.

Please make an announcement of what is happening, if you have had time to change the maps and the wording and sit and constantly delete threads have the decency to inform your paying members of why how and what the next step is.

so many heated tempers, ITS TEMPORARY noone really needs to get so angry claiming 'im not renewing' and what not, they had to change the map, the dice, the words just to be safe, would you perfer they made a stand and get the site closed down? hellz no, they will find out whats fine and whats bad, maybe some words will revert or get better, the dice will morph im sure to something more flashy, and the maps WILL BE REDONE im possitive of that, so calm down and wait it out

I see 2 options:

a) Cut a deal with Hasbro and let them in on the money, and in return they forget about any copyright issues. I guess, many players would be ready to pay a few bucks more for their premium, if that kind of arrangement could be reached.

b) Do that contest thingy and develop new maps with the exact same game-play (territories, borders, attack-ways, bonuses) as the old Classic & Middle Earth, but with new graphics and names.

I second the Classic Map Contest. I wouldn't mind lending a hand in that. At least then most of us would be happy with whatever replacement comes about.

Also, I'm fairly certain that I read a post by a mod/admin/something where he made it clear that CC had good relations with Hasbro, and that they saw CC as sort of complementary.

Terrible, terrible change. It's certainly the last time I play the classic map.

You will have to return all the goods bought at the shop which picture the Classic map (or any derivative) or face legal consequences. It's a pity though, I really liked the Classic coffee mug.

Twill, you really need to work on your PR skills a little.
You should have known the players wouldn't be appeased with a simple 'here's the new map gang - sorry, but get used to it'.
A change this big deserves a full and proper explanation.

Anyhow, you say it's only temporary and I'm sure with a bit of work, the map makers will quickly come up with something we can all accept... eventually.

Actual lawsuit?

I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but in the USA, litigation is a matter of the public record. I'm sure some of our more industrious investigative "reporters" in the CC community could find the court documents.

A quick WestLaw search might yield results, if anyone here has access.
