My free trial for photoshop ran out the day after i posted this map. Poor planning on my part i suppose. When i find some way to continue this, i plan to try to incorporate some ideas:
Monopoly is a popular board game...probably not too easy to get rights to use if the board is used exactly.
Solution? A Conquer Clubopoly board. Similar setup, but the different areas will be inspired by maps already on CC. What do you guys think of that?

I think that would be cool, though make sure there's no rights issues on that one, either. The history of copyright/Monopoly is a long and litigated one, going back to its first being copyrighted despite being in the public domain as a folk game. Google it and read for hours, it's fascinating.Banana Stomper wrote:My free trial for photoshop ran out the day after i posted this map. Poor planning on my part i suppose. i'm not sure how an alternating bonus would work, or if it would be possible. I defninetly thought about. Sorry i haven't had an opportunity to work on it and update anything, i've been pretty busy this summer, and now i'm heading to the shore. Oh life, give me some to enjoy for myself.. But alas, my intentions are to head more to a conquer clubopoly. Instead of chance, roll dice, instead of community chest, club forum, the different continents would represent different maps in the game, with key features as countries. Itstead of go to jail, deatbeater or convicted as multi, instead of jail, ignore list (or grievance, whatever we're doing..haha) istead of Go, advance to premium membership, or cash in a set. That sort of thing. If anyone has any input on what would be good things to do for the utilities or free parking, that'd rock, or if you have any ideas better than my own, lay them on me. See ya all late tomorrow

yea, thats nothing like what it would look like in a finished state. i just put all of those lines in there to show what can attack where....probably poor planning on my part. the attack routes would probably be better shown by an informative statements or by diagrams like jota?...i think it was him...suggested.
Riskopoly
Is this map dead? I've actually played Risk on a Monopoly board; when my sister and I were kids we would mash up all of our board games (I think we combined Payday and the Mad Magazine Game somehow too...).
Anyways, I think this could be cool with a little more work, so I put together a rough sketch:

I shortened the board so it would fit a screen better... but maybe we could work with the "classic" board if people prefer. I put the card decks in as intermediary territories (all of the "chance" spaces border the chance deck).
The "Attack Jail" space is a one-way attack to the Jail space. "Just Visiting" is a separate territory from Jail. Maybe "Go" should be one-way also?
To own the yellow continent you must occupy the Community Chest deck and likewise the orange continent includes the Chance deck. The bonusus are just placeholders until the final layout is set.
The money (you gotta have monopoly money!) adds a few "protected" territories... I guess they could be color coded to match some of the continents (there is blue, yellow, pink and orange money that could match). I could also imagine larger piles of money that could be their own continent...
In terms of unique names for spaces... maybe one of each monetary denomination should appear (seven bills all together). Each Chance space has a color, but need to differentiate the Community Chance spaces.
Don't wanna step on any toes here, so if Banana is still going to work on this, power to ya!

riskopoly
Why would anyone ever attack the jail if it was -1? I guess if you really need a card?
I might take another crack at using the full "classic" board, but it gets really cramped unless you are playing on a big monitor... and the utilities and tax spaces just seem like added complication (but if they are just neutral territories that might be okay)...
I was thinking of running the train tracks in a loop all the way around the board for further clarity... any thoughts?
I'm not sure I want to code/script this thing, but I'd be happy to clean up the graphics some more.

Re: riskopoly
I agree; if you make it -1 you need some incentive for people to attack it i.e. if you hold it and the utilities it's +5 (or something). See the USA Apocalypse board for this idea implemented. Or just make it neutral.EvilOtto wrote:Why would anyone ever attack the jail if it was -1? I guess if you really need a card?
I'd like to see an stab at it on the full board first before cutting it shortEvilOtto wrote:I might take another crack at using the full "classic" board, but it gets really cramped unless you are playing on a big monitor... and the utilities and tax spaces just seem like added complication (but if they are just neutral territories that might be okay)...
If the routes are clearly labeled I wouldn't waste the screen space on this.EvilOtto wrote:I was thinking of running the train tracks in a loop all the way around the board for further clarity... any thoughts?
Don't be daunted by the XML part of the process other than the finicky work of getting the armies centered (which will be relatively simple on this map) it's quite straightforward. When you get to that stage I and I expect other foundry types can lend you an hand.EvilOtto wrote:I'm not sure I want to code/script this thing, but I'd be happy to clean up the graphics some more.
Overall I think it's an interesting idea, something off the beaten track and worth pursuing.
Good luck,
Zim

You might be able to make its a one-way circus maximus type map, and it would work better since the card piles would let you go against the flow, since they woudl be two-way, which wodl make them really valuable.
Also, i really dont' liek the idea of getting a bonus of one army for one country, since whoever starts on that country gets a HUGE advantage. Maybe have the car be able to attack go, sintead of giving it a one army bonus.
I like the overall nostalgic feel of it, but you might want to clean up the graphics a bit mroe so it doens't look quite so cut and pasted. What program are you using for the graphics?

more riskopoly
Alright, enough people complained about the re-orginazation that I went back to the original board... my main complaint is that the yellow continent has no access to the yellow deck of cards... any ideas? What if I just swapped the water utility with a chance space? I don't think the utilities should connect, nor the taxes.
So here's the new board:

(trying to tread lightly on my server so the jpg compression is a little heavy, sorry)
I'm not sure about doing one way all around... I'd have to play a few games to see what it's like. What if I stuck a bill under free parking and you had to own both territories to get the +1?
I'm looking for a background... maybe a wood grain table top? Or that funny card-table vinal texture? Any one have anything that would work?
How big do the spaces for army numbers need to be? Looked like around 22p diameter on other maps?

PS - Cowshrptrn, I've got an old copy of PS, but am on a Mac and need to boot Classic to run it, SO these are done in Graphic Converter. If I build a final I'll probably go back to PS so I can do it in layers. The first one was a very quick sketch. The issue is time not tools!

I tihnk thsi map can do without army shadows. They dont' mean anything, jsut make it easier to read on colored backgrounds. Since the numbers are on grey backgrounds, you really dont' need them.EvilOtto wrote:How big do the spaces for army numbers need to be? Looked like around 22p diameter on other maps?

i'm a PC person, so i understood about 3/4 of what you said, but i see the general gist of it. np, i'll complain about graphics l8r on thenEvilOtto wrote:PS - Cowshrptrn, I've got an old copy of PS, but am on a Mac and need to boot Classic to run it, SO these are done in Graphic Converter. Army space?
Sounds good, but how much space needs to be there for the numbers? If I make a small version of the map how small can it be?[/code]I tihnk this map can do without army shadows.
