I mean I think we can all agree, that if you see a courtroom process going on, and someone gets out of hand, they just remove this person, for a period of time or all of it. The courtroom does not stop because 2 people get a bit out of hand. Formal warning, and or 24 hour bans seem perfectly fine.
Bruce, formal warnings are given. These can be given by any mod. Locks can only be performed by forum mods in their specific forums. Bans can only per handed down by the admin and hunters. The reason that bans are not handed down more often is because it is such a harsh penalty against the user and because it is seen as the last resort. I would personally be in favor of the option to lock certain people out of threads for a set amount of time (if someone could write the mod that would be appreciated). This would result in less threads being derailed and less PMs and warnings being sent. Also, Bruce, warnings are not always heeded. I have sent warnings and made posts in threads and the threads have continued on their merry way off somewhere into the oblivion. Right now, the only way to guarantee that a thread does not get completely hijacked is to lock it (even when one user is banned, others can still respond).
