Lack this one must be easey-peezey! - Map Territory Counts

Post by jiminski »

Territory Count on Game Finder Page:

Specifics:
  • Place the Territory Count on the Game Page
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • By Placing the Territory count on the Game Page

Classic 42 etc.

It would be useful for Tournament organisers in choosing maps suited to different numbers of players. And the same for Clans, to help guide maps in Challenges.

Also, I can't speak for map makers, but it may help them identify gaps in types of maps.

cheers, jim
Yes it is possible but surely more suited to a site modification?
These numbers never change and are contained in reasonably fixed .xml files so
for data that is fixed, I think the site could provide it in the game finder.
The list would always need to be updated for new maps of course.

So, yes it would be very easy to put into a script, save away the data after the first read and poll for updates...
but easier perhaps to do from the site.

He's right, it's never been suggested before. And this is a good one.

It doesn't show up on game finder/start a game (BTW: This would be extremely easy for lack to code.)

i thought the map dudes were working on creating summaries for maps to include things like
territory count, special features (bombard, capital bonus's etc etc) and a short description of the map. that was a while ago when i heard that though

All of this information is included in the XML file, it's just not displayed anywhere.

It's not quite as simple as just listing the territory count though. We need to know how many (enforced) starting neutrals there are too.

Right, but on a map like aor, the number would be huge (every territory except the castle)

Unless you just want the number, and not all the names.

no like a short paragraph by the map makers
im aware its all there in the xml file...but not everyone knows how to read xml...

like in start a game/game finder...when u click the icon the full map springs up
with that a box next to it or wherever that says...terr count, bonus description (inc capitals other stuff), bombardments, special features. and anything else relevent...ie a short description with age of realms..if u get me

Right, the information that is wanted here could easily be pulled from the xml, forming the paragraph, if the foundry didnt want to make new ones.
