Oh well, 7 days goes by, and once again if it was needed, I can confirm the old statement “The more things change, the more they stay the same”, it's exactly what life is about.

In cc land, it has been quite a momentous week. Indeed it has.

It looks like those two regulars of the GC thread are at it again. Yes dear reader, you know who I’m talking about, those two best friends, Owenshooter and Paradice. It seems Paradice popped in on the spoofish thread about our fav. Anti hero JR. In this thread our Parry pointed out that he had not had to drop rank to gather more medals. Now you must remember that when the new Gong system came out, Parry was one of the real main players, stepping up to the plate with 21! If you want my opinion, it was this that spurred JR into action. Anyway…where was I…oh yes….Owen and Parry. Well it seems Owen was not keen on parry using JRs thread for some self aggrandisement (should have come on this thread Parry, we would have given you a warm reception!) Parry quickly responded, and well I think you know the rest... However, I did chuckle at Parry’s little quote in response to the accusation by Owen that he was hijacking the thread when he said

I wasn't making it about me, i was just stating an analogous connection, well, contradiction, I suppose.

Let me help you Paradice, Actually the word is ‘comparison’

(You want to watch out there Parry, or Blitzy will be posting a top 5 list of ‘Self exaggerated greatness threads”!!!)

Ok, so what else has been happening…?

Well GD has been invaded by posters normally found in FW. Now as you know dear reader, a few weeks ago I lost a punkawallah down there, never seen him since. But up the posters came, eyes blinking in the sunlight, dark glasses handed out by friendly GD posters…you know how it happens…anyway, it seems one of their ilk, the Pink Panther or some such is banned and they want him back. Well, I have no opinion, but they have already produced 5 pages! So I thought I would take a gander.

Well it all started in FW with a petition by Deliaselene, a mod then hoofed the thread into the GD patch and it took off from there. Some outrageous logic takes place (but these are FW people so why am I surprised)…it seems old Pinkie Panther would not have to keep making multis and invading the chat if the powers that be let him back in….now I know I can be slow, but that doesn’t quite look like a strong argument to me. However, the OP Delly argues that it was she who must not be named who delivered the original punishment, furthermore the decision was flawed, as was SWMNBN herself. Good argument so far….unfortunately Apey makes a slight cock up asking if it is still a multi if there is only one account at a time. Hulmey tries to bribe the site; Smoking dud makes a leap of logic in his argument for unbanning said Punky P with this pearl of wisdom:

we all deserve a second chance give him a chance and if he messes up again then ban him for good and not let me off again

err....yeah….ok....whatever

Sooo…then up pops a multi of the Pink Panther, and I thought this should be good, so grabbed a bottle of the Vintage stuff and sat down to read. It somehow reads quite eerily. When I got to the sentence “My adversary was wicked. Now she is gone. But make no mistake, she is here among us even now” I must tell you, I went and locked the doors and pulled the drapes closed.

There were some real classics in this plea for a return from the wilderness…but I especially liked

It is my esteemed opinion that she should have had a leave of absence during her illness and that it was poor form to kick her out afterwards.

Let me help you there Panther, Tiger, Lion or whatever your name is….the word is humble…geddit.

I gave up after that….

So what else is happening….well on the subject of Bans, I see that our Klobby has been sent down for a 6 month stretch. Now I am not the sharpest tool in the box, but then I am not a blunt instrument, and I was never confused or deceived by the mirror image we saw to the norm over the last week…were you?

This week brought about something I have long wondered about, so a great big tarantara of a congrats to chipv. This cc member introduced a very interesting piece of software during the week, and after a couple of false starts the whole thing started running smoothly. Being a curious kind of chap, I just had to see how the ‘senior’ ranks fared, so good old qeee1 passed me a list with all the relative ranks. Now you might be expecting me to scoff at many at this point, but no! The arguments about senior ranks were, in the main, put to rest. I then produced a chart showing what rank and score everyone down to Brig would be and with a couple of exceptions it shows that the top players are exactly that! I think this could run and run, but in closing on this subject, I think a great big congrats has to go to the players who have shown they are worthy of their position on the front page.

That sweetness of the forum, RobinsNest posted a thread asking where certain players are now (nice hat Robin). This was followed up by another GC fav. Blitzy posting a thread about the class of ‘06. I sat back at this point and thought about things. I went to a school reunion recently, and we were discussing our vintage (mine is ‘75) and it occurred to me, that this Vintage was before most of the players here were born!

There was a couple of very interesting threads relative to each other in GD this week. So here is a little skit for you, so you can see if you can spot the threads it is based on.

Sally from the alley had had enough! She had been shouted at by Scarlet Harlot and was going public. Standing on her gate she told all. Her breasts heaving with dire emotion as she spilled the beans. Terrible Tina muttered familiarly. Others gathered round, giving succour…. (not so) Pretty Pat was there, Curious Katy joined in, she had argued before with Scarlet Harlot herself and won, but she added that Scarlet had sent Ronata Sonata to beat her up. Sweaty Betty interrupted that this had NOT happened. Katy reposted, and Betty responded…Sally wondered if anyone cared really about her problems. Hairy Carey said it was all because of what happened earlier. Rudy Judy agreed that Scarlet and Ronata were the types to get snotty when it suited them. Sally, breasts still heaving, said she didn’t want to personally attack Scarlett; Merry Sherry tried to calm things down, but agreed that Scarlet shouldn’t have shouted. Friendly Frieda had a little pop at Rudy Judy, then Curious Katy joined in…poor old Judy….Big Babs, well known for voicing her opinion of herself, weighed in pointing out that no one was without fault, but of course hers were less. Frieda nodded in agreement. The whole cackle swelled, then Scarlet herself appeared, brandishing a rolling pin….”I want an apology” She exclaimed. Judy pulled a face at her, Scarlett snorted in derision, and before you knew it, they were all there, proffering opinions. Pert Pat, Terrible Tara, and many more…the arguments descended into farce, Sally from the Alley wondered what was going on. They all started bitching at each other….things just got worse and worse. Some wandered off, others arrived….in the end Sally just decided she had enough of the bitch fest and stopped the whole thing in its tracks….But by this time Rudy Judy had wandered off down the road and was starting another argument! Poor Scarlett was the object of attack…again! The men in the houses sighed, wondering where their dinner was coming from, but this mattered not one jot to those girls in the street…oh no! Their blood was up, and off they went again. Scarlett was swinging left and right with the rolling pin, but the girls just kept ducking and swinging their handbags….Talking of which, I have to say…handbags at dawn does make great spectator sport for some of us….Keep it up Girls!!!!

Finally a post from someone I haven’t seen before appeared late this week, got me chortling for sure.

I could've played online poker but I bought the premium instead.

Re: General congratulations

Postby Fruitcake on Sun Aug 17, 2008 1:36 pm

Here we are, another 7 days on. Another 7 days of wisdom and experience to bank in life’s memories. Poor old Mrs. Bridget Driscoll of Croydon in South London had good reason not to like August 17th very much, being the first fatal RTA on British roads back in 1896! Poor dear froze at the site of an oncoming vehicle charging at her at the terrific rate of 4MPH!

So who are the car drivers and who are the Bridget Driscolls this week?

Well it seems there is dissention in the ranks. Now when I say ranks, I don’t mean those poor ranks swimming around with the other hoi polloi, oh no indeed. The ranks I talk about are those who live their cc lives on the front page of the scoreboard. It seems our erstwhile Conqueror, Scott, upset another member of the great and good, waynmgough, by having a bit of a hissy fit during a game. This set off a thread in GD which had yours truly reaching for the Vintage stuff. Out came the supporters on each side, with some treading a fine line in the middle. I particularly liked our Blitzy's opening remark:

I am starting to get a little jealous here, I mean scott-land is becoming more controversial or popular than jr or even myself now

Have no fear Blitzy old boy, no one could be more popular that you! However, your choice of JR as a random benchmark takes some thinking through.

The freestyle march to dominance of the scoreboard continues with another General appearing. Now I would not normally mention this, but I remember once taking on Max, many moons ago. In this game, dear max had that greatest of partners roll up alongside….Alangary. I felt sorry for him I really did…Max that is….so below, for your amusement is a small sample of the chat that went on between us.

2008-03-18 02:15:09 - maxatstuy: My partener just killed me so I think it is over
2008-03-18 16:16:30 - Fruitcake: oh dear....
2008-03-22 00:07:33 - maxatstuy: He never listened to one thing throughout the entire game...and never fortified
2008-03-25 07:27:26 - maxatstuy: Wow, Alangary can fortify
2008-03-25 22:43:49 - Fruitcake: and I can deploy!!!!
2008-03-25 22:46:13 - Fruitcake: should get my glasses checked
2008-03-25 22:46:35 - Fruitcake: I thought for a moment I hadn't been given my forces on e usa....
2008-03-26 04:24:39 - maxatstuy: Ummm, you didn't...cough cough....guess we have to get the game deleted...lol
2008-03-26 21:44:43 - maxatstuy: why am I still alive?
2008-03-27 09:56:23 - Fruitcake: because I placed incorrectly, and then your defenders had great dice, then your partner decided to plant some on your terry....lucky old you heh max :)))

Looks like we have both come a fair way since then max. Now where is that old villain Alan…ah yes…usual place, phew, sometimes one needs things in their proper order eh!

A little thread with a big subject has appeared on GD this week. Called “Rant: Weirdo's” the OP owenator has an issue with another player, Mega Plonker or some such. Well that Aristo Jiminski responded with a gem of a portrayal:

it is easier to get away with being an idiot in the moment whilst sitting at your keyboard and repaying existence for creating one with a big nose, goofy teeth, halitoses and a pigeon chest.

Just one question Jimmy…who was the inspiration for that description?????

So what’s with this points shedding…is it becoming an epidemic? The latest villain of the piece is one Destroyer Sol, setting up a bunch of speed games then not bothering to take a turn…why would a player want to take those points I wonder. So Quintessence... yes you….those points wont do you any good in the long term old son, unless of course you pm Alan and pass a few on to the needy that is.

A Major called gannable seems to have had a torrid time of it lately. Having his eyes fixed firmly on obtaining a score that would project him onto the front page, it seems lady luck deserted him on a capricious whim. Losing 100 points within 3 games, he found himself tail spinning. Messages of support came in, with whitestazn88 pointing out that the front page is full of pompous people, and he tends to stay back around pages 13-17 or something, maybe lower…well page 30 to be precise Whitey…no matter, what’s 12+ pages between friends. Now, unfortunately, this started yet another quick boxing match between our Owen and Parry, but more of that later…what really got me was gannable’s later post, which ended with the oh so lovely note:

Sorry if this post is boring or horribly written but i was on the beach surfing the entire day and im exhausted.

And you worry about getting on to the front page!!!!!!!!

Rabbiton joined the freestyle bandwagon and then posted a (ahem) self deprecatory thread about his success. It got mixed reviews. Our Blitzy got in on the action, pointing out that he had ‘scouted’ him some time back when he was merely a 3k score player…now that’s real class eh reader…you just gotta love Blitzy damn his heathen eyes…when someone has the condescending arrogance to talk about 3k players with such disdain you just know you are in the presence of someone special….how special, only the Doctor could tell us…..MOBAJOBG (why do I have visions of Boy Scouts on Bob a Job week whenever I see that name?) exhorted old stewed Rabbit to go for No1 spot, exclaiming it was time
"to put 1vs1 casual freestyle on the highest perch of the Scoreboard"
…you missed two words there Mobby old chap, you should have inserted ‘noob farming’ between the words ‘freestyle’ and ‘on’…but what the hell. You are a nice guy, so I won’t drive that point home.

Now, it seems the long running war of attrition between Owen and Paradice is just going to run and run. This week has seen them both receive a ban for 24 hours. The problem, it seems to me, is that Owen just cannot stand Paradice…you know how it is reader…when you were at school, there was always a few guys you just had to rabbit punch ('scuse the pun) to the kidneys, just because they existed (well I did, maybe that’s why I got in so much trouble)….I think Owen likes to rabbit punch Paradice with an almost metronomic accuracy. Each time poor old Paradice gets dizzy, reacts, then Owen proceeds to open a barrage. I almost feel sorry for Paradice I really do. You see dear reader, I am in the same clan as Owen, so I get to read what he says to us in the Clan forum, and let me tell you, Owen has no favourites!! We all get the dubious privelege of his whiplash response at times, so Paradice, and I say this to you. Don’t keep reacting, it will just keep bringing our Owen back, and he will keep on your case!!! Oh, and trying to quell that need to self promote your achievements may well help old son.

Now, the quote of the week just has to go to Jiminski. I had tears of laughter rolling down my face when I read this, and cursed that I hadn’t thought of it first such is the class and pithy wit involved. It appears in the thread about why we even have a ratings system. The question being the usual blah blah. Then Sully mentions pre selected game chat as other game sites have…soooo in steps Jiminski with this classic:

Are we to infer that there are plans to change Gamechat to be along those lines Sully?

Predetermined gamechat tags on the way huh... could be good..

we move from:
2008-08-07 18:14:22 - Scott-Land: Wayne you noob-
2008-08-07 18:14:47 - Scott-Land: ohh no.... another threads gonna be made now
2008-08-08 03:27:36 - comic boy: true - all things are relative
2008-08-08 04:54:43 - waynemgough: you don't like it scott, tough shit
2008-08-08 04:55:22 - waynemgough: but letting you get that bonus from round 1, is like an extra cash
2008-08-08 07:45:20 - waynemgough: and making threads about your conduct, doesn't interest me in the slightest

To:
2008-08-07 18:14:22 - Scott-Land: "good luck"
2008-08-07 18:14:47 - Scott-Land: "My name's Barbi, What's your name?"
2008-08-08 03:27:36 - comic boy: "Good luck with the roll, friend!"
2008-08-08 04:54:43 - waynemgough: "Do you know the address of a topless masseur in the Fort William area?"
2008-08-08 04:55:22 - waynemgough:"My name's Barbi, I'm a good girl"
2008-08-08 07:45:20 - waynemgough:"good game"
2008-08-08 07:45:28 - waynemgough:"good game"
