Re: Stephen Colbert is My Hero
You know.. that was hilarious up until the video clip and then it just got stupid.thegrimsleeper wrote:http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/03/145234
Why would they invite him, anyway?
But, I don't get why they invited him either. Unless they thought he was serious and not a satirist. I know that there are still a few people out there that think "The Daily Show" is a legitimate news show. People want to be interviewed by them hoping they'll get positive nationwide coverage not realizing they'll be made fun of.
It was supposed to be aired live on CSPAN, does anyone know if they actually showed it? I would pay good money to have a tape of it. He only showed the hindenburg analogy on his show Monday so I had a good laugh going over the rest.

You people do realize that this dinner is what is called a ROAST and at such events, what he did is why he was invited. They do this every year and have for years. Did you notice right before Colbert came on Bush was on stage with a Bush impersonator making fun of himself?
I do think the video went on too long.

look, i wont try to hide my disdain for the surrent president but it was the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, its not like it was Bush's birthday. And there was humor in there, but if you are a Bush supporter it might not have been very funny humor.

Im a Bush supporter and I watch the hell out of the Daily Show and Colbert report because they are funny. This stuff want funny because it wasnt funny. He wasnt "roasting" him. Hes a guy that doesnt like Bush and made a point of NOT being funny so he could more effectively insult the guy, in my opinon.
If he had actually just roasted him it would have made no news at all, thats what youre supposed to do. Juvenille of Colbert to act like that, and Id have said the same if somebody had crossed the line at a dinner for Clinton. Let the man eat his damned dinner without insulting him for chrissakes.

ok, thats a valid point and i sort of agree with you, but how is it insulting Bush to state the facts (granted they were delivered in a way that made them more than that) its not like Colbert said "Bush you are an idiot and smell of horse poop" he simply stated that Bush's ratings are very, very low and that people should not forget that.

Strange, Joe McCarthy that at least 3/4 of the people I've heard talk about this (at least 20+) have all agreed it was funny for a variety of reasons, if the audience had been laughing more, I assure you, you would have thought it was better. Perhaps it was less funny because a lot of it was strikingly true?
Steven Colbert has big Cajones, and I got some chuckles out of it.
