leonidas [noted]

Postby FabledIntegral on Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:09 pm

Accused:
leonidas1
[/list]

The accused are suspected of:
Quite simply - tossing the game. Usually people just leave a "1" under the rating of Fair play or something. Yet, like Secret Diplomacy, throwing the game IS against the rules. When I took a leading position, the player suicided against me with reasoning

"2008-06-23 22:49:57 - leonidas1: I went to end this game looseing less points
2008-06-23 22:50:27 - leonidas1: rather loose against any other with higher rank"

He deployed and threw all his armies against me - he also deployed each turn and failed to end each turn to make sure I wouldn't get any cards if I went after him, specifically saying "you won't get any cards from me," despite the fact he had a moderate chance at winning before that.

Yes, I used the rating system accordingly.

Fair play - 1 star. He threw the game. Definitely not fair play.
Attendance - 1 star. He ran out of time 4-5 turns out of a 12 turn game, almost 50%, just to delay the game.
Attitude - 1 star. Said right there by what he said in chat, as well as a little quip "maybe someday you'll manage to have a 58% win" ahahah.

Game number(s):
Game 2706817

Comments:
Either way - it says right in the rules, no throwing games. So... I'm filing a cheating form. Yes I put him on foe, but it doesn't mean he won't do this in other games.

i'm not sure if that is quite cheating, he had already lost and logically it was better for him to loose less points. but u are right even if its not cheating thanx for warning all of us.

He had not lost - if you look at like 3 other people's post, including mine, he hadn't lost. I simply had the advantage, and he wanted to ensure I wouldn't win. He had just as much of a chance as anyone else left in the game.

Suicidal players and chronic turn skippers, as well as deadbeats, are a plague on CC. Even though this is not technically cheating, it does need acknowledgment. Unfortunately the feedback system is now gone, and we are left with no effective way of warning the community of a player who chooses to use this type of game behavior.
I believe you have done a service to the CC community , by warning us of this dirty and unwanted player's style.
Thanks :D :D 8-)

I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't think it actually DID fall under the "throwing games" category.

Unwritten Rules

Obviously any gross abuse of the game is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to: throwing games, intentional deadbeating, serial teammate killing, hijacking accounts.

However - "throwing games" might very well mean entering the game with the intention of throwing it. If so, then this thread doesn't have much of a purpose, eh?

Suiciding on the weaker player so that he lost fewer points? What's wrong with that? If you don't like his style then don't play with him, but what he did was not abuse.

Throwing a game is against the rules. Bad play is one thing, intentionally throwing is another...even if it's for such a noble thing as losing fewer points. (Hint: That's sarcasm.)

Mr. Integral posted this same bit above but you chose to ignore it.

Attempting to throw the game in order to lose less points can be really unfair and very unsportsmanlike. It is right to give him the appropriate ratings and this report is noted of him.

Hey King, is it against the rules, though ? (i.e. if he did this again and again, would there be repercussions or would it be a "just use feedback" sort of thing?)

Oh, I don't worry about it at all. I just don't like misplaced "righteous" indignation. I share your opinion of his posts, I think...I just usually don't take the bait.

I actually want to see a clarification on this because the written unwritten rule says it's illegal...but it seems to happen a fair bit. I guess it's what the ignore list and feedback are ultimately for, but I'm curious what the mods/hunters think of the unwritten rule and its interpretation.

He's been noted, that's enough for me. Not like I'll be playing with him again anyways.

This is not the first time that some players do break some unwritten rules that destroys the essence of the game or of the site. If it is just a case of unsportsmanlike conduct, it will reflect on himself. There have been warnings, permanent and/or temporary bans, depending on the weight of the offense. Regardless, when it comes to that, the case is thoroughly investigated and consulted with the other moderators before a judgment can be handed down. As much as possible, we do not want to go to that path and hopefully, the player in question abides the rules and policies implemented by the site.
