Re: Logic dictates that there is a God!
i want to be part of this discussion as well, so if you don't think someone is answering a question well, then i will try my best to answer, or a question asked i will answer. i think this site is a good one. you can search things if you have questions and it will give pretty good answers most of the time.
i don't really agree with the way jay and gregrios are answering some things. it looks like out of respect, and not love.(the brotherly love, not man/woman love) "love your enemies." i feel that you should be respectful to everybody, not just those of the same religion!!! discuss politely and be open to other opinions, even if you feel thy are wrong
there is not actually any solid PROOF for God, or for evolution really. all religions are a matter of faith, including atheism. all religions believe that they are true, and the only real way to find out for sure, is when you die. i believe God is real, so all you non-believers, have fun in hell... (by the way, this is not an un-respectful thing, its just what i believe will happen)

Re: Logic dictates that there is a God!
So, I was pondering the "literal truth" thing, and I was wondering (I'm not being insulting, just want to know).
Does the earth orbit the Sun or vice-versa?
Are the stars little lights in the sky, or other suns light-years away?
Where do the planets fit in? (Venus, Mars, etc that is)
Are there planets around other stars?
I can't look this up in my bible, it doesn't seem to have made the journey to the US with me, and I only seem to have a copy of the new Testament at the moment.

Re: Logic dictates that there is a God!
basically everything that you believe, except for the "billions of years" part.jonesthecurl wrote:Does the earth orbit the Sun or vice-versa?

the earth orbits the sun
the stars are suns (technically the sun is a star though, they are all stars) light-years away
what do you mean "where do they fit in"? do you mean how did they come to be, or why are they there or something else?
yes, there are probably planets around other stars.
there is solid proof for those things, and this stuff actually makes sense. why would you think that we don't believe the earth orbits the sun?
the bible doesn't really mention this stuff...

Re: Logic dictates that there is a God!
Going off of what Jay said in his first post on this thread (This topic really never caught my eye)
Logically, if life could not be formed in the beginning and "Someone" just happen to create life, would he be considered "God"? Maybe...
But the question i pose is...Where did he come from, if your using logic for the basics of evolution and reproduction, then God himself must have came from somewhere.

God is not affected by time, so he doesn't have a beginning or an end. he just always was. its hard for anyone to understand, and christians can't comprehend it either, but its what the bible says, and we believe it. God did not come from anywhere. he always was, is, and always will be. its quite mind boggling, so thats where faith comes in

Re: Logic dictates that there is a God!
Well considering this in instance is a "Logical" thread, that type of explanation wouldnt really cut it.
Technically if we had to look all the way back in the very beginning, we look at the primeval atom AKA The Big Bang Theory, of which all life/stars was created from. Now if that could give us an explanation of how God came to be, it would be from that theory alone. Now looking at it from this perspective, i could say such a force of that magnitude in some supernatural way created a being to be known just as God, where upon in what he believes his duty to be is to watch and create life.
Am i making sense so far?
Edit - Really, looking at it, evolution has full of holes, so does some of these theories people come up with. God to me is considered a theory. As is the Big Bang theory. I am not trying to diminish the facts that there is/isn't a God, but i am at least trying to put up some type of argument that would make sense.

Re: Christianity/Atheism debate
first of all, i would like to make it a non-logical thread, and just make it a discussion thread
in a way, yes, God is a theory, evolution is a theory. people strongly believe in God because of faith, and proof that they have heard of/seen/esperienced. no one KNOWS for sure, but people BELIEVE. same with evolution. I am one who believes God is not a theory, but fact, and there are people who believe evolution is not a theory but fact.

I don't have to. I've been around long enough to know the scientific theory of evolution.ParadiceCity9 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

So evolution is a story, while creation is the absolute truth(which has evidence right, gregrios? )Gregrios wrote:I don't have to. I've been around long enough to know the scientific theory of evolution.ParadiceCity9 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

OK. Now. All you church-goers, please provide me some insight on why you believe that there is a God.

In all seriousness, what good would evidence do?Iliad wrote:So evolution is a story, while creation is the absolute truth(which has evidence right, gregrios? )
Right
If God showed his face to the world, there would people who would say:
"It was the sun bouncing off the water and then mixing with the moon's light that caused this phenomenon"
....or something to that effect.
It would be absolutely pointless. People who are hell bent against beleiving in God would most certainly find a way to justify such a phenomenon.

I think that this actually describes you in the opposite sense. Your hell-bent and making excuses. Like why God can't come to the party.
Sorry guys, God can't make, free will and all.....
