Even most christians have a problem with other christians who interpret scripture like that, God is about forgiveness and mercy for those who ask it.

I also think that it is not fair to children to not be exposed to religion in school... and no I don't just mean christianity, I mean all of them so they can have the true opertunity to decide for themselves if atheism is right.

My g/f (an atheist) teaches religious education in a London school, and she has to teach xtianity, judaism, islam, sikhism, buddhism and hinduism. Which is exactly as it should be, IMO. And atheism - or rather humanism - is about to be added to the curriculum. I have a probelm with the 10 commandments in classrooms because they are faith-specific.

Please, tell me, there has to be a better way.

OK. Dont have sex. But if you must, please use a condom. You can buy all you want at the corner drug store...or over the internet arriving at your home in a plain brown wrapper.

Seriously...this condom thing is so silly.

Well I supose heavy but again I personally wouldn't have a problem with my kids being in a school where there was say a poster of the laws of Islam, the teachings of Buhda or what ever. I think presenting the information is positive.

I just have issues with something like one of the kids stole a lunch, cut off his hand.

i have only skimmed the past few pages, and it appears that the conversation is about the use of condoms?
well, I am against pre-marital sex
and, condoms don't always work
seriously, if condoms always worked, I probably wouldn't be in existence, yes I was an "accident", but at least my parents were against abortion and were already married

No, because spaying someone with mace isn't sin. Sex is, with or without condoms, before marriage. :-^

Spaying? isn't that a little extreme?

Jay, sin shouldn't come into this. Sin is a religious concept that has nothing to do with morality as far as I, and many millions of others, are concerned. Tell your own kids they will burn in hell for eternity if they succumb to their overwhelming biological urges, but leave mine alone.
And your point about bulletproof vests... if we handed them out to every child how many lives would be saved each year?

Dimes I see what you mean and I agree. But teaching materials are one thing, forcing a religious code down everyone's throats is another.

It is not forced, it is presented. It is your choice to decide if you accept it or not. We can try to convince you, but if you dont accept it, so be it.

I wanted to respond to the post defining faith. I allways think of faith as the belief in the improbable.

ie. Figuring I can drive to texas with no brakes.

Religion is like an airplane you pedal or a jet pack.

Great idea, most people just can't pull it off.

I suffered Sunday school for years. I know lots of people who had the misfortune to attended church schools. Christianity is never presented as a choice. It is forced down childrens' throats when they have neither the discrimination to disbelieve nor the independence to refuse using brainwashing techniques - repetition, sing-songs, threats etc.

Only went until I was about 4... didn't go to church again until I was about 18... found my own faith, and path.
